Dia-Compe 290/292 Batwing Levers

Does anyone know if the old Batwing levers actually use road bike brake cables? There is no way a MTB cable end will fit.

What specific levers are you referring to as "batwing?" A picture or model number might help.

I can't seem to attach anything but a quick online search shows an instruction sheet for the AD 290 and some anecdotal comments about being able to use either type of cable.

I've seen the same thing. The description is vague. I'll try a set of road cables to see.

That is it. The cable enters the black adjuster on the top of the photo. The silver portion is ferrule/adjuster combo. Which is strange because the rear does the same thing. I don't see anything on the instructions about a cable. There are plenty of tips on adjustment.

I just went out and looked at 2 bikes I have with these levers and both bikes have plain old Barrel type MTB cables, the barrel just sits outside of the rear adjuster. These are how I got them and have yet worked on the bikes the levers are on.
