1951 Phillips 3 speed
hello, i have as the title says a 1951 phillips 3 speed. I have an issue with the chain case there is a piece at the back that goes over the rear hub sprocket, this is held on my one screw but will not tighten and keeps falling out. is there someone out there that can help with this i can post photos if needed

Is it a sheet metal screw or a machine screw? If it is a sheet metal screw, one size larger should grab and hold. If it is a machine screw you'll need to re-tap the hole.

I think a '51 would have had a Whitworth threaded bolt and not a screw but I've never had one that age. Maybe someone in the English three-speeds thread could help you?

Lower section fixed nut
The main casing that your corner piece sits on/in should have a nut fixed permanently that the corner piece bolt engages. If one or both are deformed the bolt hole and the fixed nut may be out of alignment. Check if the fixed nut is still Insitu.

Since the threads look good, I'll guess somebody lost the original screws and tried to replace them with screws that were close, but not exactly the correct thread. British threaded screws are next to impossible to find here in the U.S. Might be more available there, but I think I would just re tap and use similar sized modern stainless screws.
