Shimano cassette body/freehub on Suntour hub

Anyone ever tired to put a Shimano freehub on a Suntour hub?

To my knowledge, they are not compatible. They both use a fixing bolt that takes a 10mm Allen wrench, but the Suntour is accessed from the non-drive side, while the Shimano is accessed from the drive. Here is my attempt to remove my Suntour freehub body -- unsuccessful because it was essentially fused to the hub, but I was able to service it in place.

Remove Suntour freehub body?

I've tried: not possible, and it is not just the backwards orientation of the 10mm fixing bolt. The interface between the hub shell and the freehub is simply different/incompatible.

So I doubled-down, and disassembled a Shimano freehub and a Suntour freehub (yes - down to the gazillion little ball bearings and tiny shims) to see if I could transplant the outer Shimano hub shell onto the Suntour freehub core. I know, this is PhD-level bike hacking. Again: no go; too many dimensional differences.

However, if you are attempting to run a Suntour hub with cogs on a Shimano system, then as long as you have the same cog spacing, and the same number of cogs, then your Suntour wheel should run fine with Shimano indexing. Trick is finding Suntour cassette cogs, as in apart from cluttering up my garage, and a few extortionist-priced options on Ebay, these don't exist any more.
