Trek question

What are the differences between the Trek Antelope 800 1993 and Trek 950 1994? At my local shop, they have the Antelope $50 cheaper than the 950 so I was wondering the differences between these bikes. (They are both in very good condition)

I bought new, and still have a 1993 Trek 930. The 9xx series were higher end models compared to the 8xx series. They had better components( Mine came with Shimano Altus A10 which has been a workhorse group.) The top steel model was probably the 970, so the 950 would have been second down the list. I would go with the 9xx over the 8xx as I did back then :)

The main difference is the 900 series Treks had nicer matching components. While the 800's had lesser and somewhat mixed components with some cost reductions. I would agree with kermie that for a $50 price difference the 930 is a better buy. Both are very nice bikes.

9xx's US made I believe only earliest 8xx's. When the 9xx(Single Track) was in production all 8xx were imported.
I think.
Get the 950.

I may have the year wrong but a 94 trek 950 should TIG double butted true temper OX tubing. Made in the USA. Component a are Deore LX probably. Definitely a better bike.

The 8xx level will be much less nice parts and a Taiwan or China made frame.

I have an 800 Sport 1995 and, while it has served me awesomely from 2013 to this day, even a perfect one is only worth about $25.

As much as I love mine, go with the consensus on the 900 series.

If you want to check out what were the original components, here's a link to the catalogs:
Trek, Fisher, Klein, Lemond bike catalogs, bicycle brochures

The 800 is straight gauge hi-ten, with a straight-gauge chromo seat tube.

The 930 is full butted chromo frame, fork, and stays. Stays are tapered.

They are very different bikes.

Did you decide? I vote for the 950, a much nicer bike.
