It’s really only paying $100 - $160USD over my normal base price for quality vintage steel framesets and is more unusual ( closer to rare ) - and apparently OK or better shape. With a headset.

If it’s something I’ve been searching for, I’d absolutely drop the extra coin. If it’s something cool I stumbled upon but wasn’t necessarily looking for, maybe not.
I looked a long time for a reasonably priced pink bike in my size. Found a pristine pink Schwinn Super Sport for auction on eBay. I won it and paid $301 shipped. Probably $100 more than I would have to pay locally and $150 more than the last Super Sport I bought. Worth it to me because it was exactly what I wanted and I’d been looking for a long time.

I just overpaid for a 1980s vintage Miele. I knew the price was high even when the seller lowered it some. However it was a particular Miele I wanted and to me was worth the price. To others, they might have passed on it. It all depends on what the bike (or component) is wroth to YOU.

I pay. I'm pretty specific about the kinds of things I like so when I find it, i jump if it;'s at least somewhat reasonable. I definitely overpaid for the Super Course frame I just bought, but I've also been looking for a Nervex lugged super course frame in my size for about 6 years so to me, it worth the extra $40 I paid for it.

specially panto'd parts are not junk
nice tubular wheelsets are not junk.
ok, the consumables and undetermined crankset are junky.
Funds for the Fleet highly rates 'keeping them on the road' as well as 'N+1 framesets requiring nice parts' not presently in the bins.

I ponied up 100 bux more than I would've in normal circumstances for the Bianchi without really thinking about it because it was a grail bike. I made the difference back (and then some), too, by punting a few parts I didn't need and substituting ones I already had.
In other words, it all washes out in the end. Money is to be spent. Enjoy spending some of it

^^^ Exactly, I have overpaid for many of mine and would do it again, they are one of a kind to me, some are customs so there simply isn't another to wait for at any price and I have them and am enjoying them now.
The others that are not customs are "rare" enough to me for size, color, condition, age, etc. and some for price that they were bargains of a sort anyway, just getting my hands on them at all in a timely manner makes them worth it to me.
There have also been plenty of actual bargains as well so it all comes out in the wash.
