Surprise haul today

Went to pick up a cheap Giant bike for my daughter to take to college. I noticed the Black Lightning’s in the garage and asked about them. Then he said he had one more and wheeled out the De Rosa. A nice deal was made and I couldn’t be happier.

That DeRosa's closer to my size than to yours. :innocent:

(I really am just teasing. I promise). Robbie's closer to you anyway.

Great scores.

Good for you, that’s a sweet score. 👍 But you didn’t post your girl’s bike, maybe to not tip off any thieves. 🤔😉🤫

Nice score. Hope they fit.

Nice score! Speaking of bikes for kids headed to college, I have one headed off as well. Is there a sticky or particular thread I should look at for building up the proper college bike? I know cheap is one of the qualities listed.

Wide tires (college kids don't have the time/inclination to pump them up, so higher volume lower pressure means less frequent need because less loss), fenders and racks are nice, a decent lock, ugly enough that no one will want to steal, cheap enough to replace if stolen are a good start. Nothing with quick releases is a good thought as well.

There's gold in them, thar hills...

Nice haul! Wish I could luck into people who have De Rosas and their ilk just lying around...

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that @sloar is the luckiest guy when it comes
to N+1 scores?

Isn't this fun! Great find! I am green with envy.

Thanks for the info. The wide tires/low air situation is something I hadn't thought about.

I think we need an N+X category.

Ha.
One stop and your daughter has a 4 bike C&V group that's fast and droolworthy, and with a college beater. :thumb:

Good start for adulthood.

I haven't got around to the Black Lightnings yet, I'm thinking of swapping forks. I cleaned up the De Rosa today, actually better condition than I first though. Nothing stuck, but the calipers are for 27" wheels so Ill need to swap those.

Congratulations! This is a great story for us bike acquisition types, De Rosa has been one of the most elusive brands for me over the years.

The (similar?) Eddy Merckx bikes seem to grow on trees compared to these, and I'll have to be satisfied with the one EM I found that truly fits (Century geometry).

I did once have a guy sell me a Masi Prestige when I called to buy the Fuji Professional that he was selling, price (for both) was better than right and he even drove them to my house from three hours away.

I'm quite surprised that short-reach Record calipers on this De Rosa are too short for 700c wheels(?).
