Chrome Using Powder Coat

I found this while reading the thread links on removing powder coating. It is a way to get a shiny, silver powder coating on items. It's not chrome electroplating.

There is an easier way. Alsa makes a 'chrome' paint that is amazingly shiny. Only problem, this stuff is shockingly expensive.

I have had a few frames powder coated when they were in bad condition. The guy I have do the powder coating had some parts that were powder coated in chrome. They actually looked pretty good. Very inexpensive to have it done and way more eco friendly.

It looks like the results vary. This page has a comparison. Pic below. TwinTurbo.NET: Nissan 300ZX forum - Re: Anyone have experience with chrome powder coating

While some of these chrome look paints and powder coats are pretty impressive, I can still see from a mile away that it isn't actually chrome. AFA its possible use in restoration, IMHO it's only an incremental improvement to painting over rusty chrome with silver spray paint.

OTOH I think it would look pretty cool on a modern bike, like for example a Cannondale CAAD or similar hydroformed frame.

I was thinking it would be best applied where the original chrome "socks" were wasted away (corroded) and re-plating wasn't an option. I'd never thought of doing the entire bike that way.

It is an aesthetic choice.

It ain't chrome. Rather than "chrome powder coat" to replace crappy chrome, you're better off just powder coating over with color, IMO.

What "chrome powder coat" is good for as an undercoat for a "cromovelato" type look.

That frame is crazy  Is there a thread you can link that goes over all the bits and bobs?
