That just screams "hipster", the spare cogs under the seat (hadn't thought about the relationship to "Truck Nuts"
,) and that humongous ugly stem, just push the double crankset over the cliff edge.

Maybe the "spare" cogs are meant to be used as drink coasters.

The BMX version are "Clem Twin" cranks. I'm not any good at posting links...hitting the links maybe...but if you do a search it discusses the madness behind the method. Or is it the other way around?

I thought about a fixed geared bike where the non drive side would have a disc rotor attached to the crank, caliper mounted above the chainstay.
the aesthetic of no caliper brakes with a real brake at the ready.
I think sometime after a builder at a NAHBS Show presented one.

It's the shape of the pedal on the left side. It's a typical right-side pedal. So indeed, it's probably (or at least it should be) loctite-ed in.
Which means, if this thing is intended for any sort of quantity production, what becomes of all the left arms and left pedals not used? Oh I know -- build up a bunch of bikes with two left arms/pedals, and no chain, so no power at all. You just put it on a stand and spin with no resistance. Isn't any stoopider than the original idea......

So much crying! "Oh no the stem hurts my eyes, the spare cogs I don't like them!"
This bike is amazing. Totally not my thing, totally weird, visually rude, and y'know what? It's functional, unapologetic and a wildly enthusiastic expression of the owner's/maker's vision.
Plus those 'truck nuts' let you change gears without dragging along a whole extra wheel.
On the other hand, I can confirm the description of hipsters is exactly accurate.

It's a weird bike but except for the stem looks well put together for as much as that is possible.

Have you ever tried a double IPA? If travel ever opens back up, you're welcome in Boston anytime, we can go braze some metal things together and I'll give you a can of Heady Topper.
I didn't like IPAs either, until I tried a double IPA. Rather not like this double-drivetrain thing. Waste of good tandem parts. I mean regardless of their original BMX purpose, those cranks would look ok on a tandem. Put one of those nice short cranks on the back to make your inexperienced stoker spin a higher cadence.

As someone who drinks craft beer, has a beard, wears skinny jeans, and owns many flannel shirts, I must say: I hate this. I think I might hate that BMX style stem the most though.

How do we know they're a he?
The owner may even be an unopened box of Dia-Compe SS-5 brake levers. After all, that thread was ballsy enough to warrant truck-nut-saddle-cog-thingamabobbles.
