Mavic 571/2 hubs cassette options

Hi,
currently building up a 90’s Look KG166 with full Mavic Groupset. Have a pair of 571/2 hubs with the Mavic proprietary splined freehub. I know that the specific cassettes are as common as unicorns but have heard that later Mavic Shimano splined freehubs can be fitted? Anyone know if this is true or do I need to get handy with a Dremel on a Shimano cassette!!!
Thanks in advance

Russ

Mavic produced 3 different hub bodies,
571 - Mavic Proprietary
571 ˝ - Shimano Splined
571 ˝ ED - Campagnolo Splined

I have all 3, and will tell you that no dremel work will suffice and compare. But mind you, just cause it says ED or ˝ doesnt 100% guarantee that it will be shimano/campagnolo. Ive seen some ED with Shimano hub bodies. Ask questions before you commit. Hunt on ebay and source proper parts, trust me, this will save you the headache.

So is there a freehub option available from later wheelsets that would convert these hubs to Shimano/Campag ie Cosmics?

No. Ive been where you are.
Only the 3 Mavic 571's 'hub bodies' are cross-compatible.

Hi, thanks for that info, the hunt continues!!! May look at a interim wheel set as I think that could be a long process

I’m fitting the 631 double chain set with the Mavic “floating” bottom bracket. Google says the 114mm is the correct length but that looks very tight and don’t know if that will give enough crank arm clearance on the Look frame. I’ve had the b/b shell correctly chamfered with the correct Mavic tool. Any advice warmly welcomed!!!
