Dangit, looks like I’m a week and a half late to post my 710...

This one just came back to me. Shamefully, I have never ridden it any distance.

Overloaded for 2day shake down to Long Beach from where bike was stolen so I never got chance to resolve annoying wobbles https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7e410f3c2.jpeg As recovered some 15 months later thanks to bikeindex.com listing. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...50381f7af.jpeg More or less current state after parts bin rebuild as general duty backup. |

Did you ever get to kick that guy ankle deep in the nutz? I'm so sorry for you, but I'm so glad you got the frame back. |
Does a Multitrack step-thru count?
My wife's next ride, at the powder coater's... https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...14e15fc815.jpg |

It's a relief to see that I'm not the only one here who likes to re-purpose cheap military surplus bags of one kind or another.
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...80037d57b8.jpg That 720 is at my in-laws, but the bags are currently gracing it’s little cousin, the 620. They exactly fit one 12 pack of Elysian assorted 🍻 |

Is there a "Post your..." thread for May 31? |

We should start a set of month-long threads, they could last all spring and summer, "Post your 300-series Trek" for March, and so forth.

OMG!!! I totally forgot to bump this thread today!!!
Let's see some Trek 720 touring goodness!!!! |
Oh man, now I can finally post something in here!
1982 720/728, 25.5", with basically a greatest hits of Shimano Dura-Ace. She is Queen of the Fleet, essentially a two-wheeled bullet train. I cannot emphasize enough what properly long wheelbase bikes (with good tires) do for tall riders, especially over crummy city streets. I am no faster on a road/race steel or aluminum bike (carbon, too, though technically untested)--heck I'm a hair slower on those--while being immensely more comfortable and less fatigued over the duration of the ride. Specialites T.A. triplizer for the crankset (53/39/26), Tektro R737 brake calipers and R200 levers, very well-loved new-to-me Compass Bon Jon Pass 35s, 120mm Technomic stem (pretty recent addition), Noodle bars, Brooks synthetic bar tape, Prologo Scratch saddle. I need to take more photos in different places, but I'm just here for the ride, and I still haven't gotten my phone's camera fixed (using a different camera here). Priorities, right? This bike is my absolute go-to. All the slow gears, all the fast gears, two bottle cages, and a nice place to put a frame pump that still allows me to shoulder the bike up and down all the stairs in my apartment (or anywhere else). https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6e79d106b7.jpg |

Hippy camo 1985 720 in 24" with 700c wheels. |
The Golden Boy -- As requested in this post, here's my relatively recent '84 720 pickup, pictured as purchased. It's in the queue a ways down, so the build will take some time. I need to replace the bartape and re-position the levers a bit lower, but otherwise rideable. The wheels and RD are not original, but I do appreciate acquiring another triple pulley beauty. Seller claimed it was an '84, but I haven't had a chance to verify the SN yet.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bd4c87190e.jpg Trek Bike Models/Years/Colors I had a 1983 Trek 720, which was grey (Pewter). The last two years of the 720 were burgundy, like yours. In '85 it had gold lettering. Of all the bikes I've ever had, that's the one I regret selling. |

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bd4c87190e.jpg You've got an 84 model year- In 1984 Treks had the model year on the down tube- hence the "TREK 720" vs just "TREK." Nearly ALL of the 85 model year 720s were built in 1984- so you'll often see people refer to bikes with the TREK decal as 84s- even though they're 85 model year bikes. There were a few minor details like the crank and the front derailleur. The catalog says the 84s are made from 531ST tubing while the 85s are 531C. I'm interested in what your 531 decal shows. If I were going to be running my 720 in friction, I'd full on be using a triple pulley derailleur- I was using an XC on mine for a while when it was still running the barcons. Take your time with that build- congratulations for scoring a super bike!!! |
Dang, I told myself I’d post a picture on 7/20 this year and have completely forgotten. Well, here is my 1982 720.
