L'Eroica di Gaiole: Evento Annullato

This just hit my mailbox. Title says it all. L’Eroica is cancelled for this year.

Smart - there really was no way to have any type of social distancing during the event in Gaiole. Being packed into that square pre and post ride would have been very risky. I'm sure out on the road and Strade Bianche we would be fine, but it was the start and finish that would have been an issue. Plus tough to do the rest stops.

Time to cancel the hotel reservations.....

Unfortunate, but inevitable given the health situation plus international travel restriction. Same here with Eroica California and other Eroica events worldwide. Just keep training, imagine your next trail is the Strade Bianche, and the next hill is a great Italian or French climb. Be safe out there.

I had already booked my lodging in Gaiole for next year's event, but getting in might prove to be a challenge, with all this year's tickets rolled over.

There is some good news from Italy, too, should anyone be looking for an alternative. La Carrareccia, one of a series of historic Giro d'Italia stages, has apparently found a way to make their event "COVID-proof", and it is still on for September 6th.
