Wait, but when someone grabs that bike for cheap from the thrift store in 2050, they’ll complain that the derailleurs don’t work for sh*t anymore!

Reynolds, Tange, Columbus, Kaisei, Dedacciai, VariWall, and Nova all have tubing that varies in butt length, diameter, and gauge.
The product catalogs from Reynolds and Columbus are so extensive that its tough to keep all the options straight since each model has sub-models. Reynolds 853 has multiple variations. Columbus Zona has multiple variations and the stays have endless bend options. etc etc. |

Why would you say that, there are many improvements from the old dreadful Cotter Pins
Yes, there are solutions to reduce the "creakiness" but I could easily live without that "improvement." |
Yes and no. For sure the latest components function better but, in the old days Campy components were rebuildable which meant they could last forever. Today, they're not as rebuildable which I feel is a step back.

You know - I can think of something that hasn't been improved over time: Shimano's latest V-brakes. They don't sit flush on conventional V-brake posts, and the bolts that come with them are so short that you can rip out a stud with them if you find the perfect wrong combination.
Plus, this fit also means their return springs don't quite seat in the stud, which makes me believe that Shimano really did design these for a stud with completely different dimensions. Either that, or they made a massive miscalculation when designing the thing. Does it make them worse? I think so. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b6ee6c1afa.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2c5c0e9c8d.jpg -Kurt |
