That's a first...

This morning I decided to track down a front fender rattle that started during last weekend's ride. Pulled of the bag, hoisted the bike up on the stand and gently tapped the fender a few times. The rattely buzzing sounded like it was coming from the fork crown area, so I took a head-on look and was greeted with this:

In 48 years I've never experienced a pivot bolt coming loose, no less falling out entirely. I'm certainly glad the caliper arm didn't come off!

One too many clicks on the mouse there ascherer :)

Spaghetti Legs 08-23-20 07:28 PM

Thought maybe it’s a WTB.

clubman 08-23-20 07:28 PM

It crossed my mind. I'll sell you a Mavic Racer pivot bolt at Covid pricing...call me!
If you really need one, let me know. There's only a few million out there.

Give him a brake guys, he’s all rattled!

Lascauxcaveman 08-24-20 12:02 AM

This happened to me, too. But it was my own dang fault. I just forgot to retighten everything after spending an evening meticulously cleaning and polishing a set of those. :(

A friendly forumite with a few extra parts bailed me out :)

Nice rack baby,,,

ascherer 08-24-20 06:45 AM

The comebacks are worth the price of admission!
Wasn't meant to be a WTB/ISO but sure, anyone that wants to throw a bolt in the mail, PM me. I have another set in storage that I'll grab in the meantime.

How much for the rug? Is it wool? What is shipping cost to Taipei? Can I get a drive-side photo?

nlerner 08-24-20 03:25 PM

Back in the day we didn’t need no stinkin’ pivot bolts. We made do with sticks, twine, and a handful of mud.

Ah, we dreamt of having twine. And we had to give all our sticks and mud to the shop owner for the privilege of learning a trade.

It's on sale! Act now!
In fact, we bought it just a few months ago on Overstock and I would recommend it as a very good value if you like that kind of thing. We got tired of looking at the old ones after a few months of sheltering in place.

Then he would sling the sticks and mud at us, and make us pick it up again.

Ah, we had to work endlessly for that shop owner in order to have enough shekels to buy water to mix with the dirt to make mud.

You were lucky! You had dirt!

"LUXURY!"

This is by far my favorite version of this schtick:

PM me if nobody hits you up in the next 24 hours and I'll get something out to you. I have a plethora of MAFAC and Simplex parts. Extras will come with it no doubt. :)

You could make a drinking game based on each time one of them has to stifle himself from cracking up.

Back on topic. On my favorite bike. A couple months ago, within a couple days of each other, I lost a pulley axle from a

600 rd, and had sidewall blowout on a gp4ksll (no surprise there) with less than 100 miles on it. Today, that same bike dropped its nds crank arm. All of them are firsts. I have my suspicions about the mechanic

There's your common thread, eh? :foo:

nlerner 08-25-20 03:50 PM

I keep firing my mechanic for shoddy work, but he just continues to show up in my basement!

Mine's even creepier, I constantly catch him staring at me in my bathroom mirror. Just moderately unnerving.
