That's definitely worth saving for posterity. Comedic gold.

Looks like a nice $800 to $9p0 Olmo to me, depending how worn all the 35 year old consumables are.

I've gone a step further on craigs. I listed an ad correcting a guy trying to sell his Nomade/Mirage as a Grand Record. I use one of his pics and point out a few differences between his rebadged fake and the real deal. First time I've done this, but I couldn't let it go. I had one response so far saying, "there were different Grand Record models. This one has the correct decals." <facepalm>

Sometimes, the saltiest sellers have the sweetest stuff.

Not sure about this guy but I've seen it.

The idea that they don't care if it sells, and can spend another 20 years on a shelf is kinda beautiful to me.

What's in the box?

P.S.: Quite by chance, found this modernized SLX Olmo on the local OfferUp. No relation to seller. https://offerup.com/item/detail/931789045/

I doubt he ever really sells anything but he sure does have some nice stuff.

Sounds like a guy I knew whose wife was always pushing him to sell his guitars off (he had about 80) He didn't want to sell any. So he'd price them astronomically and moan about how bad the market was.

This market is wildly inconsistent. Vintage stuff is overpriced (particularly on eBay) and nobody wants it. Cheap stuff is overpriced and nobody wants it. But if your bike is from one of the large brands (Orbea, Focus, Trek, Canyon, Cannondale, Specialized, etc.), priced reasonably and under ten years old, it sells, very quickly.

I think everyone is going a little stir-crazy, thanks to the pandemic.

Some eBay sellers have an issue with malignant narcissism. I had an encounter with one of those people earlier this year.

I'd purchased a Campagnolo Record headset advertised to be in good, functional condition. Upon inspection, bearings were found to be badly corroded, with a severely pitted crown race. I figured the seller hadn't checked and that he'd be fine with a return.

The seller proceeded to tell me (in condescending fashion) that I didn't know what I was looking at, that he was a bike builder and that the headset was sent in usable condition. The photomicrographs and SEMs I took of the damage were then uploaded and I had eBay handle the claim, which was summarily refunded in full.

Narcissistic doesn't mean smart.

This 100%

Add to that the fact that new bikes are flying off the shelves....

Which means more people on bikes and that means that cycling will "stick" with some, while many buy bikes that sit unused. Those new enthusiasts will go down the rabbit hole and some will end up here

Circles.

I have had about two or three bad experiences and hundreds of good ones so I keep shopping. I rarely sell, but have and generally goes well. My experience with trying to correct a bad listing has never been well received. A 1972 Raleigh Competition GS that I messaged to inform the seller that the GS was not produced until 1977, no response. The Campagnolo Superleggeri “Super Record” pedals with steel spindles, I informed the seller that Super Record had titanium spindles, no response , and so on. I guess folks get it in their head what they think they have and not open to correction so I don’t do it any more. Just frustration that I don’t need.

This is probably the wisest post in this entire thread.

Hey, at least he's locked down at home amusing himself.

Looks like the going price of an Olmo is $200, based on his logic.

Sometimes when my better half asks me to sell off some stuff that I don't really want to let go, I list it for a ridiculous amount just to come back at her to say, sorry 'hon, it just didn't sell...let's wait until next year to try again.
