1971-72 Bianchi, transition model

This is an interesting Bianchi. Components are original except for the rims and consumables. Finish is original, decals are repro. This is in the transition period between the old style graphics and integrated headsets and the new graphics style and separate headsets. This is a 1972 I believe and definitely on the top end of the Bianchi line. Plenty of patina. I have included both an artsy shot and a before pic.

thanks very much for posting this interesting curiosity

odd to see the combination of integral headset and no ends eyelets

launch for the 3TTT Record model stem (G1) was 1971

That would make sense. The bike had a later stem and wheelset installed when acquired but I got the original stem and the wheelset with original hubs (later Rigida rims, I would guess the originals would be Nisi). The serial number is 172 on one side and 072 on the other, the RD is patent 71. The original main decals were not what I am used to seeing on a Bianchi. They were printed on a clear panel that wrapped the entire tube. The panel had yellowed badly and was ripped and scraped. Unfortunately there are no reproductions of that type available (the letters also had no outline). I decided to go with the closest reproductions and they do match other Bianchis from the era. There is one "special" decal on this model that I can't find anything close to.
