Mavic 315 Headset Stack Height 38-44mm?

I want to know under what conditions is it 44mm? It has been said that there is up to 4 times the thread on this unit, so is it if the locknut is up 6mm, that it still has plenty of threads engaged?
There is a cross section diagram on Google images but it quite fuzzy.

Maybe it doesn’t mean stack in the traditional sense but the allowable length of the steerer.

If your HT is 200mm and your steer is between 238mm 244mm the headset will fit with no cutting.

I like the design of these but as everyone here should know I am not a fan of cutting a steerer to fit one certain HS

Again I think that 6mm is allowable tolerance on the length of the steerer and you can have up to 6mm of steerer tube above the clamp on the upper cup.

That is exactly what it means. It will fit a steerer tube that is 38-44mm longer than the head tube.

I meant what fills the gap between the top race cup and the washer/locknut when it does up to 44mm?
