Removing vintage decals ?
 

I have a Spanish Razesa that I bought new decals for as some of the original ones are in very poor condition. My question is how do I best remove the damaged decals from the chromovelato finish ? I have no idea if they used water transfers at that time or ????
The new ones appear to be a heavier self adhesive design.

As shown the biggest issue is the seat tube decal, the down tubes are not too bad for what I assume are the original.

Based on the pictures, I would say that the decals are just that - decals, water slide decals, not stickers.

If stickers, a hair dryer, some heat applied to the sticker area and peel it off. If water slide, scratch off with your fingernail or something similar. However...

Just yesterday, I had to remove the decals and stickers from this old Torpado...

Turned out that the hair dryer did not work too good (these guys were really stuck on with glue made out of dinosaur bones) . With that in mind, using a very sharp (razor sharp) Olfa cutter, I slid the knife blade under the sticker, slicing off a wee strip at a time. Then, I had to use lacquer thinner to remove the glue. Then, a final sanding with 300 wet and dry paper(not done the sanding part yet).

Paint soon, I hope...

Adhesive tape can pull off a lot of those flaking decals.

Opposite problem.
I had a Nishiki Competition with waterslide decals. After about a dozen washes they were gone.

They are water slides....I would leave them on, I like the patina.....can you get re-pops if so wrap the decals with wet paper towels and leave them on for quite awhile rewetting frequently. The glue underneath the decal will soften and lettering will be easier to remove.

I tried a small dab of acetone as a test and the old decals dissolved instantly with no damage to the finish. New decals are on !
