A recent build from what was, when purchased, an unknown frame. With help from the knowledgeable folks on this forum, I now know the frame is a 1973 Witcomb and even the frame builder! The builder was a gentleman named David Cotton, and I paid my respects to his work with a little custom decal.

The housing is clear red, so you can kind of see the silver coils underneath. I do have some matching brown cable that I also got from porkchop bmx, just decided not to use it, for aesthetic reasons.
Red looked so much better, considering the red of the Raleigh head badge.

beautiful bikes! i have what i think is a 50's Mercian that i bought as a frame.. 110mm rear spacing and stamped dropouts, mounts on both fork blades for a lamp bracket.

I took my 74 Hetchins for a spin the other day after giving it a winter tuneup complete with a new shorter stem and fresh white bar tape
. It was a dry morning and I got in a couple of hours of nice riding before the rain starting coming down right as I was taking this picture. Got kind of wet getting home but it felt really good to ride a "skinny" tired vintage lightweight after spending most of the winter on my 650b fendered bike. The waterfall is downtown Seattle.

My 1980Raleigh Record Ace, The only pure English bike I have. I also have a 73 Super Course, 74 Gran Prix, 76 Grand Prix, 77 and 78 Super courses, this RRA, A Geoffrey Butler, and a Witcomb which is a 73, and lastly is a Dawes Galaxy. I think I might be gettin a Raleigh Alyeska from a friend.
This bike was bought in England way back in 1980 but how it got into the US I have now idea.

This is mine. I bought it from the second owner and I know it has been repainted. I picked it up with a complete campy NR group and a Brooks saddle. This is how the bike came to me in the wild:

They had many uses however, before the advent of portable electric lights. Early car and motorcycle headlights were carbide. The searchlights used in WWII were acetylene powered. When I first started mountaineering in the very early seventies the old-timers would complain about how wimpy battery-powered head lamps were compared to the carbide lanterns they used in the past. I think the ones used for mountaineering and caving were developed for mining.

About all I've got to share is this old 3 speed I sold a couple of months ago. Pretty much redid everything on it over the time I had it but still eventually had to admit it was too small for me.
AMF Hercules with a S/A three speed dated 1972.
I do have a pre-order in for a brand new Pashley Guv'ner which is based off the 1930's design.
Oh, and I did have an early 80's Bob Jackson. Quite the nice bike.
