I wanna see the receipts

nlerner ’s reply in the Small Snapshot of 1983 thread made me think I’m not the only one who hangs on to original receipts. Here are two of mine. Let’s see what you’ve got.

These came with a '60 or '61 Raleigh Lenton Grand Prix that I bought a few years back. When I sold it off, I included the documentation:

I swapped the saddle before I took the picture. Other than that, it's all original, even the bar tape. Previous owner swapped the tires, but included the originals. I picked it up this summer listed as "schwinn bike"

My 84 Gran Prix bought in early 85. Still own the bike. My first "real" bike.

Receipt for my 1938 CCM Road Racer bought used in 1940 (not by me of course - I’m old but not that old)....

I found this at my parents and believe it to be my Dad's. 1940 printing date fits as he was born in 1928.

Robert’s bike shop is in my neighborhood! Looks like they moved across the street since 1961–they’re at 7054 N. Clark Street now.

Deal4Fuji Even as late as 1982 the city registration only considered bikes to be for children - Boys vs Girls......

I've had many bikes stolen growing up, one 3 speed from Western Auto within a month of getting it. If a registration sticker can help in any way, maybe just getting my small town police force to take more interest, I'm all in. It's $1.00 I could spare, and I think they're kind of neat tying a bike to it's geographic location. I wish I had the Winter Park bike shop sticker on it too, but it had to be special ordered because they didn't normally stock 27" frames. It took quite a while to come in and I think they wanted me out of their hair and off the phone as soon as it came in the back door :)

Anyone notice how similar those 80's shop receipts are? Looks like one company had a lot of the LBS market.

markk900 01-25-21 08:38 AM

Deal4Fuji I was hesitant to ask, and assumed the frame size was a typo or a reference to wheel size; but no it was a 27" frame! Wow....

How about a pawn shop Klein?

This 1948 P.T. Stallard Montlhery is a project that is still in the queue. I was able to get some of the original build documents though, including:

These receipts are almost as interesting as the bikes. Well, they do tell a story. The notations, the handwriting

, the prices, the way the receipt looks. Good Idea, ManekiNico .

Here is my contribution:

The frame and bottom bracket

And some of the parts needed to complete the bike.
