Help with Trek ID please.

This bike was at the dump, it is now in my garage :-)

Wheels might come back to straight with some truing, but might not, frame has some dings on it, but does appear to be straight.

No decals are left on it, mis matched parts, what is the frame?

Nice score. Is that bike your size?

The vintage trek site has a registry of serial numbers which will tell you exactly what the bike is.

Looks like a 600 or 700 series Trek from the early 80s. I can't read the Reynolds sticker. I'm guessing 600 series with a main triangle of Reynolds 531 as there doesn't seem to be a sticker on the forks.

Jack,
After you get done on the serial number registry check out the decal sets I just posted in the 760 appreciation thread. You may be in luck for a restoration. Smiles, MH

I think it looks like an '82 710.

Cool, I'll check it out :-)

I wasn't looking for another project, but this could be a pretty fun bike to just tune up and run as it is, I did get some free 25c tires not long ago that would be right at home on this bike. If the wheels straighten up with some truing I'll run it for a bit for sure, but if I have to buy wheels, I'll either part it out, or strip and save for when I have more time for another build.

Based on the info here, Vintage Trek Bicycle Frame Serial Numbers, bike, I think its a 1980 310?

Hobbiano 01-26-21 08:38 PM

I still think it looks like an '82 710. If you scroll down that page there's a table where you can click on the year. Click on 1981. It seems to be just past the last number for an '81 710, and the light blue head tube looks like an '82.

What size is your frame, center to top?

You've got a good eye! Everything you say is spot on, 1982 710 it is!

Hobbiano 01-26-21 08:49 PM

Ha! I have one. The 710 also has rack braze-ons on the seat stays. I don't think the 310 did.

Hobbiano 01-26-21 09:19 PM

From what's left of the seat tube tubing sticker, you can see the remains of "Guaranteed Built With" and "Forks & Stays". That's a Reynolds 531 sticker, and only the 700 series had 531 forks & stays.
