Has Germany cornered the market on domed MKS dust caps?

Way back in August I bought some MKS pedal dust caps from a bike shop in Munich Germany. Fast forward several months without any mail from Munich darkening my door, PayPal eventually refunded my money. I am still on the prowl for a pair. Every time I look on eBay, all the domed MKS dust caps appear to be from Germany. Whazzup with that? Note that I am looking for the ones with no lettering and a profile similar to Campy dust caps, not the truncated cones with "MKS" on top. These are to go on a pair of Specialized Touring pedals. The domed caps are the right part for the job. I find it weird that no matter when I check eBay (several times over the past few months) they only ever appear to be available from German sellers. Burned once, I'm loathe to dip my line in that water again.

This: Not this:

Thank you. We now return you to your regularly scheduled C&V programming.

I have bought pedals to get these, Soma sells them for $4.99 each when in stock.

https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/pro...5&category=149

They call them "Prime" caps, and some of the Prime pedals do come with them but the pedals are not cheap anymore, last set I got were track for $26.95 shipped.

They should work, you can always sand/file the MKS off and I think these are also in short supply some now too.

I would just pop for a set of MKS pedals and solve the whole thing, they are very reasonable, plenty on efbay starting at $37.

I bought a set from him.
Total Campagnolo profile.

Why settle for mediocrity when perfection is within reach?

Agreed, still a little too rich for my blood, can't justify when I have a couple dozen sets of Campy, MKS and others, many in G-VGC.

There are quite a few for 27$, so you could have a set of backup pedals to go with the caps.

for what it's worth... Zeus made pedals with the same type of dust cap as the Campy (and MKS and ....) pedals. These are chromed plastic, just like the Campy SL pedals.
I was able to buy some a while back, and have happily used them to replace my abused Campy dust caps. Same thread, but the knurled outer diameter is slightly larger, so the Campy tool doesn't work.

a quick check with google doesn't show many available, and they don't appear to be cheap.
Still.. if you come across some stashed in the back of a bike shop, they are quite nice.

Rivendell has these at $2/each, with a $4 shipping charge. Ordering three, the shipping is still $4, bringing the total to $10/three. Tacking on a few other small items mitigates the shipping further.

One of my earlier Campy arbitrage/scavenger winter projects was buying battered Campy pedals with mangled outer-edge cages and clean caps. I could sell the caps to cover the acquisition price of the pedals, + a few bucks for replacement MKS caps. Cut off the outer edges of the mangled cage, and have a decent set of user pedals for free. I'd normally file down the upjutting point anyway.

I did/do file off the raised MKS letters.

Now that I'm older and more fussy/curmudgeonly, and only have a few mostly-Campy bikes, I do like having rounded/domed caps i/o the truncated-conical MKS caps. It's mostly a pinky-out teacup aesthetic thing, not an anorakian period-correct thing. Just think the rounded/domed caps look better.

The good news is there's a ton of repops out there. The bad news is you're paying around $30/pr. The other bad news is all those repops might make my free pedal hack no longer possible.

If Soma ever gets theirs back in stock I might stock up on 6-12pcs and be done for life.

Strawberry here has a hacked pedal set, with PowerGrips. Probably could've countoured/shaped the trimmed cage edges a little nicer, must have run out of patience. I probably did this 15yrs ago? The conical MKS caps really don't look all that bad. But I've since swapped them for a plain domed cap, and went with regular clips so I could use my vinyl Strawberry straps.

Precisely. That's why I posted the two pix in my original post. I know I can find others which will fit, but I'm being fussy. (These are for Specialized Touring pedals, which are relatively more curvy than many other pedals. They demand curvy caps.) No sense for people pointing me to the truncated cone style with "MKS" on the top.

Pinkies out, everybody!

Brethren and sisteren, when in doubt, pinky out!

If you use this search in ebay you'll find vendors from the UK, Italy and eastern Europe in addition to Germany. Some supposedly original, some labeled repops. Lots to choose from on the Campy side. Only a few MKS Primes offered. I suppose you could add Zeus to the first search group, or any other mfr with similar caps----Gipieme?
(campagnolo,campy,prime) (cap,caps,dust,dustcap,dustcaps) pedal

Like I said, $30/pr or so. And int'l shipping.

Nobody ever said a refined aesthetic sense came cheap.....
