kinda hate to start a thread about this, but......

someone fairly recently posed a question as to where to find white fenders. don't remember if it was a thread started on the subject or simply a post in a thread with subsequent replies. and, i don't recall who was asking. i know i'd posted in reply, but for the life of me i can't find it and give up. i'd been looking for some alum' fenders like old esge's for the longest, but now i'm hot for some white ones myself. i have been looking since, but i'm wondering if there'd been any resolution of sources in the query thread/postings

anyone? was it polymorphself ?

I have Planet Bike road fenders (perfect on 28s) that I bought probably 10-12 years ago. That pair was the only one I have ever seen. Now back in a distant millennia, I used to think nothing of going to the local bike store and getting white English Blummel fenders. Never got turned away. And it always seemed to me that the English had a good handle on riding in the rain. Good full fenders with a real front flap and in a color that got seen, even at night (which occupies 2/3s of our northern winter 24 hours).

40 years later you would think we are still as smart but now finding white and yellow fenders, especially in widths a hardcore might want, seems like finding a needle in a haystack. (Actually harder. The new magnets make finding the needle pretty easy.) I've written to SKS several times begging them to do a run of yellow narrow road fenders. They are getting tired of hearing from me. But some new blood? Might turn a head or two over there. So contact them. Please.

There's precedent. You know those yellow Ortleib panniers? And the other manufacturers that have followed suit. Well, ~1997 they did not make yellow. Nobody did. Greenlake Cycles asked them to make a run of yellow using their yellow raft fabric for the Seattle area. I knew nothing about that. Winter of 1999 I had just moved to Portland and wanted to replace my aging panniers, saw the dark Ortleibs and already knew I wanted bright ones just to be seen. Felt like I was rolling the dice every time I put dark ones on. Mentioned this at the local coop. The employee said that he had heard Greenlake had gotten that special run. I asked him to follow up. He did and got some in. I bought a pair and went to all the shops I knew and showed them off. Yellow is now the Portland default.

So - why not fenders? (I doubt anyone in the Ortleib board room is complaining.)

...I haven't been able to find white as a color choice for SKS fenders for four or five years now. Too bad, I used to like them.

79pmooney pretty sure i saw some yellow planet bike fenders in my search for white. atleast, in the google images. tbh, i didn't click to follow through on the ads, so i really don't know if they're actually available

i'm kinda keen on something like the planet bike with the thicker plastic. maybe i'll have to just paint some

Planet Bike used to make yellow road fenders. There's a shop outside Portland that used to stock them. I've talked to an REI employee that owned a pair. But that was 20 or so years ago. I haven't been looking since I got the white ones because Planet Bike fenders are not stiff enough and designed well enough to work as road fenders if you put a real flap on the front.

hmm..i have a set of PB's for up to 25mm tires and i find them pretty stiff...comparing that to the longboards i have which i've found prone to some floppiness. i guess not all sks are equal, though. nlerner <<ehem>> has some beige ones that look pretty stout on a bridgestone

okay....they're advertised as yellow, but they look beige to me. another screw up on color labeling? from what i've learned, the fenders PB sold formerly as "white" were actually cream/biege...as these appear to be

Get a set of Sekine alloy fenders and paint em white. Painted fenders look great, in my opinion...


Or paint up an original set of steel fenders, as I just did on this old Torpado...


All you need is some paint supplies and this Rustoleum which is pretty easy to brush on and look good (there are a few different colors to choose from, mix if you want something a bit different but do not thin...


I might add that the old Bluemels don't stand the passing of time well. They become brittle and tend to crack or break. Nice in their time but not so good today, in my opinion. I always opt for alloy fenders, if I can...

Hey everyone!

It was me who complained about the lack of white fenders offered. I started a thread here with a plea to contact SKS and Planer Bike to convince them to authorize another run. PB said in the spring they would think about it. Please contact them!

from the bugs me thread I got leads which I followed to dead ends, sold out and one site which was suspicious...
Also got a stellar set of white Bluemmels from a BF upstander but decided they were better suited for my 74 International and kept looking for a set to go with my 2017 BRG Raleigh Record Ace machine.

are you talkin' genuinely white fenders or beige/cream as they were last run? i mean, i liked the beige color, but to be a cohesive force of persuasion let's be clear on the white...no pun intended

as always, your craftsmanship is model.

years ago i was very frequent on an old toyota forum and the short lived going trend was to repaint your truck with rusto mixed with a little acetone using mostly a roller. some guys got really good results looking close enough to a pro auto body job. so, yeah....using rustoleum is a good idea. i do have some steel fenders i could paint. they'd be kinda heavy for my taste, though. if i was to go metal at all, it'd be alloy and those soma ones nlerner linked look really sharp. i still hope some silver esge's will pop into my radar one day

White mudguards would be my first choice. If PB or SKS comes out with them I know of 3 bikes in my stable that would get some.

I do have a pair of 80s era white steel fenders (with the solid U-shaped alloy stays) that ain't perfect but still pretty nice, though years have aged them slightly to a warmer ivory. From europe, complete with wee reflector housing on the tail. Would be fun to trade them for something - even if shipping would be a bear!

Oh I have the white steel mudguards as well. 2 sets from Austria which cover the two Puch bikes I own.

I bought a set of white PB Cascadia in ~45 mm width about 11 or 12 years ago... They still look good!
