Olmo Sanremo
Does anybody know anything about this bike? Black with lugs, white details in the lug cutouts. Campy mirage and avanti parts almost all around and next to the serial number on the bottom is stamped '55'. If nothing else what could the 55 mean? I've looked all over and emailed olmo looking for info with no luck. anyone? even a estimate on the year would be helpfull..

Based on the pics, "55" would appear to be the frame size, in centimetres. What is the tubing?
|
Yes, 55 cm is probably the frame size. (The color and size approximate those of my Bianchi.) Are those Columbus stickers on the fork blades? Look for some hint that the frame is made of Columbus, or at least its 3 main tubes are (Tre Tubi Rinforzati). I am guessing it is of circa 1990 vintage. If it fits you properly, it sounds like a keeper. If not, I am sure someone will help you find a nice home for it. :)

yeah its columbus cromor tubing and... duh about the 55. i should have figured that one out.
|
Cromor was produced from about 1987-1993. However, I believe Mirage was introduced in 1995. I guess Olmo could have had a large stock of excess Cromor, or the previous owner bought an old stock frame, or the equipment was upgraded from original?

hmm... maybe. i'm more curious about this bike now than before i started this thread!

In some parts of the world not many people have heard of Olmo (like in England), as a result many shops have stocks of these frames from seasons ago and will often re-kit them with modern parts to sell as complete bikes. With the exception of Columbus Aelle, Olmo started using Dedacchia tubes from the late 90's onwards (mine is '99 made from deda tubes). The serial number should hint at a year, if not, then the name 'Sanremo' on the toptube could be a clue as to the companies founder, Giuseppe Olmo, won the Sanremo race in 1935, which hints at a possible 60th anniversary frame...1995.
