The only issue I have is that it seems like everyone that builds one, goes for the fattest tires they can stuff -like 2.2inch or fatter making them look like 1980s drop bar mtbs with disc brakes?? I'd stick with something a little racier, maybe go as fat as 28s.

Battaglin also makes beautiful lugged steel frames with disc brakes. Maybe too flash for my tastes, but undeniably HOT

Rather go Superior

After purchasing a CDale Synapse new and riding it around for a while whenever I'm going on a longer ride or a group ride with people I know well, it's the 82 Superior or the 98 GT Course that comes off the hooks.

If I can fit 2.3's I can fit 28's but the reverse isn't true, when you get much bigger than 45 on a 700c there are other things that need consideration but disc brake's give you the flexibility to run 650x5x and some nice 700x28.

Yeah.... kinda...
but...
28c tires in a fork that can clear 2.3s looks, just a bit... off.
Too much space around the crown -no matter what kind of brakes it has.

I feel like that's sort of the point of the frame tho. You buy a Crust because you want a fat tire all-road bike. It's got all of the braze-ons too, and maybe the coolest bi-plane fork. It's also easier than finding and converting an old frame to 650b.

I think the Lauf forks are kind of sexy in their own way. <3
