Well, someone has to post a Rolex. I got this one after grad school and it’s been everywhere I’ve been and it has been with me in every life experience. It’s been all over the world and through a lot - scratched, mangled, bloodied, abused, and bashed and then repaired a few times. When I stop moving, it will too. I just wanted a basic watch that only told time and I had the choice of this basic model or a Milgauss. The Milgauss would be much more valuable now but this one is priceless to me.

A Brooks Pro with friend...

Here are my "daily duty" watches, though I don't always remember to wear them each and every day. The one on the right is a 1977 vintage Timex, rescued from a drawer in my Way Better Half's grandma's bedroom chest-o-drawers. I've worn it for more than a decade, but it seems to be near it's end, as it basically needs wound more than once a day. The other, yellow on yellow, watch represents probably the only personal item I debated purchasing in 2020 (it actually was purchased this year)... an India made HMT, refurbed model, circa late 80's to late 90's. I currently wear this one to ride my bicycle, so I don't have to get out my phone for the time. It cost less than 10 bux, including shipping, from India. HMT watches were made from Citizen watch tooling, in India, where mechanical watches were prevalent much later, timewise, than in the states. I think each reflects the same values (some would say "hang ups") that C&V bicycles represent to me. Those values being: minimalism, simple over complex, value from it's use over it's pure possession, an attraction to orphaned or abandon technologies, squeezing every ounce of life from an object, and striving for a minimal footprint.

This was my dads watch. I received it after he passed away twenty years ago. I wear this maybe once a week, which is more than the others.

My brother bought this and serviced it around the same time my dad passed. He gave it to me for unknown reasons. I believe it's a Hamilton from the 40s, but I have not confirmed it.

The only watch that I have bought for myself. I bought it about thirty years ago, thinking I needed a watch...

If you watch that scene closely you'll see Fonda's character is wearing a gold Rolex GMT Master with a nipple dial while he feeds the money into the gas tank. The watch he throws to the ground just before hittin' the road is obviously a cheap watch on a twist-o-flex bracelet!
