An unusual frame fitting
... on a Scott Sawtooth MTB. Should qualify as C&V as is has Biopace.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5d7ae71e80.jpg I am curious if any other bikes had a built-in spoke carrier. The bike is for sale (not mine) with more pictures here: https://www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/s...ike/1390206519 |
Long Haul Truckers have that feature. I think it's more common on touring bikes.

-----
this feature can be seen going back at least as far as the 1930's on some touring cycles of French origin it is both spoke storage and chain slap prevention chain slap prevention is also seen accomplished with a rubber strap in this position copies of the French produced originals are being manufactured today in Japan another spot for spare spoke storage in years past was the hollow interiors of frame pump shafts. such frame pumps with have a rubber plug in the top of the handle for access. ----- |
These bits are still available through Framebuilder Supply and others. They were spec'ed on a few higher end production touring bikes BITD. I keep a few around.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...de0129798f.jpg An issue with them is the spoke nipples tended to loosen sometimes. More than once I had an LBS customer complaing about a rattling noise that they couldn't locate, this was the cause. |
My Novara Radonee has spoke holders on the chain stay.
|
That Scott may have been marketed as a tourer. 40 spoke rear hub (maybe) and low rider mounts up front?
|
My brother-in-law has a Diamondback mountain bike with that feature.
