Hi from Door County!

Hi All,

It's been quite some time since I've posted on the Bike Forums. I used to post as eastbay71 but I couldn't remember my login information so I'm starting fresh. It's nice to see some of the same screen names still posting. I live on Wisconsin's Door Peninsula and cycling has always been one of my loves. I started collecting bikes around 2013. I concentrate on bikes made in the USA especially in Wisconsin.

Here's my current stable, not all are vintage; '81 Trek 750 (road),'84 Specialized Stumpjumper Sport, '84 Trek 620, '85 Trek 170, '86 Schwinn Paramount, 80s BCA Town & Country Mixte ATB, '89 Look KG89, '91 Trek 2300 Pro, '95 Mongoose IBOC Free Radical conversion, '98 Waterford 1200, '03 Scattante SC-R, '04 Serotta Legend Ti, '16 Raleigh Merit 3

Projects in the future; '83 Trek 850, 2000 Schwinn Peloton Pro, 90s Mike Kowal 653 frame, '04 LeMond Tete de Course, 60s Triumph 3 speed

I'll share pics once I get past my 10 post introduction period.

Yep we get a lot of folks from Chicago year round. Some of the best fishing in the country up here. Lots of good cycling too!

My first century was a loop around the peninsula. Stayed at Clark Lake many times, so many great small roads to ride on.

My parents retired up on the peninsula in 86. I used to go every year summer and Christmas, with the family. They both passed so I haven't been up there in a while.

Great bicycling country!

The goats were on hiatus for quite some time while a lawsuit by PETA was being decided. But they returned last summer! My sister worked at that restaurant while in college.

We try to get up there once or twice a year- We usually stay at the Bayshore Inn- we both love it there, but I want to stay up around Fish Creek- if just to cut down on the driving, but my wife loves the Bay Shore. I want to do a long weekend at the Harbor Guest House one of these years...

Primed Rib at the Nightengale, Burgers at Bayside, Pizza at Wild Tomato...

I can imagine it’s significantly less “adventure” if you live up there vs a week long visit.

Nice of you to check in with us. Door county has terrific bicycle riding. In the summer that area of the US doesn't usually have the heat and humidity that is typical further south. One of my retiree frame building class students is from Door county. His name is Errol and keeps checking in with me once in awhile. I live in SW Michigan and our state's equivalent to your county is the area around Traverse City. They are right across Lake Michigan from each other. My wife and I like to go up there when we can get away for a few days in the summer and fall.

Clark's Lake is such a great waterskiing lake! And a great part of the peninsula to visit with Cave Point and the Dunes right there as well. Looks like we'll have all 3 Centuries back on the schedule this year!

Sturgeon bay has really come into its own over the last 10 years. You can ride the Ahnapee Trail down to Algoma now in addition to the routes to the north. Washington Island by bike is the only way to go!

Hey thanks! Nice to be remembered. I left the Bay Area a few years back. I wanted to beat the rush LOL.

The LeMond is at Cyclocarbon right now getting its clear coat fixed. But as soon as it's finished I'll post her up. Working on a Schwinn Peloton Pro this morning but can't post any pics yet. My fleet has been kind of re-organized with the addition of the Trek 170 and trek 850 this spring so lots of parts swapping going on.

You could do a lot worse than the Bayshore that's for sure! Right in the heart of my favorite riding area. Bayshore Drive from Sturgeon Bay to Egg Harbor is my go-to ride. If I want to make a day of it I'll cut across the peninsula at Horseshoe Bay Farms to Jacksonport. Then you can follow the lakeshore down through Cave Point, Whitefish Dunes and the Coast Guard station. Follow the canal back to town with a stop on 3rd Ave. for a coffee or a pint and your right back to Bayshore. Nice tidy 50 mile loop with both sides of the peninsula and lots of cool stops along the way.

I have a Relive video of the mid county route but I can't post links yet.

I really need to get back up there. I think I was last there around 2001-ish. It's only a 4-hour drive, I thought is was longer. Would be an excellent weekend getaway, once things "normalize".

Everyone up here is ready for life to get back to normal. The end of last season started to pickup a bit. Sturgeon Bay is building a new waterfront walk along the west side of the bay. They're expanding the beach at Otumba and there is a new park along the waterfront on the east side as well. It's not super popular with locals but the Maritime Museum built an observation tower that's 10 stories tall. You can see from the lake to the bay up there. And the Ahnapee Trail has opened from Sturgeon Bay to Algoma. It' about 45 miles long and worth the effort to check it out. Lots of new stuff to see here!

What has totally changed is the road from GreenBay up to Sturgeon Bay is now a 4 lane freeway compared to a 2 lane highway. It SIGNIFICANTLY decreases the travel time to and from. Especially when you'd get stuck behind some old clown going 40 "enjoying the scenery," or "being safe."

Entirely independent of this thread- yesterday my wife made reservations in Ephraim this summer! I'm looking forward to a nice ride to Peninsula and in Peninsula!

I haven't- we were up for the Dark Songs thing a few years ago. I've known Liv Mueller for 20 some years- she's a sweetheart.

This is a nice time of year for Door County. Wildflowers are starting to appear, and there's still a month before the tourists start showing up in large numbers. I'm usually up there around this time to help with maintenance at Björklunden, but the pandemic has put the kibosh on that.

I got out for a quick lunchtime ride today on my Paramount. The best bike out of all of them in my fleet.
