Bianchi Single Speed Ident
Hi Everyone, been lurking the site for a bit, and decided to post. I've been on the hunt for an old road bike project. Not a lot to find in my neck of Southwestern Ontario.
Anyway, I found a single speed Bianchi a few hours from me. Looks to be original, save for the platform pedals. Golden colour, blue lettering with red forks, with chrome tips. I've asked the seller for more pics and info. I don't have my 10 posts yet, so can't post a pic. Sorry any thoughts on age, frame material? |
Welcome to Bike Forums and hope we can all prove helpful. Not much I can offer, regarding your hopeful purchase though.
I live in Northwestern Ontario and finding bikes here is usually a snap. Lately, however, things have really changed, thanks to the pandemic. I did, however, find a Bianchi at one of the four dumps that I go to each week. The back wheel is toast, but the rest of the bike is an easy restoration... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...145f2edeb1.jpg Anyway, off to the dumps in an hour. Who knows what will be found when I get there. Hope springs eternal in such endeavors. |
Thanks randyjawa, I can't believe you found that at the dump...!! Best of luck on your hunt

do you have pics? If you send them to me ills post them for you. Or the link. BianchiGirLL@yahoo.com |
Thanks BianchiGirll, I sent you an email.
Looking closer, I think I can see where some downtube shifters used to be. The ad also states it has 700c wheels, which likely wouldn't have been original, likely came with 27" rims...? I'm not looking to flip, so if I'm buying this for the frame, essentially, I'm fine, as long as the frame is of good quality. |
Seller sent me a few more pics. Definitely was converted to SS, and the frame has a "Hi Mn" ( high manganese steel, P.G., OJI original frame tube) sticker.
|
Hi-Mn indicates an early 1980s Japanese manufactured model, around the transition from entry level to mid-range. Being Canadian from this era, it won't follow the American model names. The serial number will tell us the exact year.
|
STRONG PASS. This is a very small low end bike and a mismatched fork is usually a good indicator of front end damage

Thanks for the advice. I was drawn in with the name, but seeing all of the swaps, it really brings down the value.
Maybe I'll go check the dump too. 😁 |
