Marquis Vintage bikes

I'm looking to get some sort of vintage bike and ran across a Marquis bike. Anyone know anything about these? I can't find much info. Looks nice, but it's a Shimano 3 speed which may not be that great. Seller thinks it's from the 50s or 60s, not sure if he knows.

I'm wondering if the bike isn't really that old. The hub is like this:
I believe that is a newer Shimano hub? Any other way to date this bike?

It's has Coast to Coast on it which I guess makes it a Coast King bike. Still unclear on the dating.

I don't suppose the shifter helps date it?

Seller couldn't find any made in reference on the bike other than Japan on Shimano components. Does this mean it's likely made in USA? Sounds like Huffy may have made bikes for Coast to Coast?

A full picture of the right side of the bike would help with identification. The shift lever is a newer style than what you normally see for Shimano. From the bits you have shown, it looks like a Huffy-made bike from the 1980s. Huffy made a lot of private label, store branded bikes. The are generally heavy, low-grade steel, and poorly assembled. They can frequently be found with low mileage because they were used for a few trips around the neighborhood, then stored away and forgotten.

a serial marking commencing with HC would indicate a machine produced in the home Huffman facility of Celina Ohio

Thanks. It has an HC number on the headtube. So it is for sure a Huffy then?

yes, you may find a serial number on the underside of the bottom bracket shell like this one which indicates a cycle produced in Celina during February of 1988 -

your cycle likely manufactured in the 1983-84 time

Thanks

Any idea how bad a Huffy bike was relative to good bike shop bikes around that time frame?

If he could get the serial number would be able to translate the year?
