Holy Cow! How did I miss this? This is sort of a grail bike for me. Other than at a warehouse dealer show, Univega was too cheap for Interbike that year, I don’t think I’ve ever seen one. Is a post with more pics somewhere?

Although I do not own a bike with these great shifters, Campagnolo (Super) Record milled shifters are my all time favoriete!

Another Santé set (didn't realize until I viewed the photo, rear shifter is benté), this one on my '89 Circuit, which I've FINALLY pulled out of mothballs after 1.5 years:

Suntour top-loaders (but not symmetricals AFAIK) on a Miyata Seven Ten:

A couple sets of Shimano 600 early 6-speed SIS, one on an '86 Ironman:

One on a wee (24" front wheel) little '87 Lotus:

Suntour Power ratchets on an '82 Trek 412:

And some steampunk-ish Simplexes that could use a good cleaning, on an '85 (?) 420:

Glad you saw that, turns out that spacer was mounted upside down. There's a notch in the spacer that matches to a tab on the shifter body, so it's only supposed to go one way. I reckon someone installing it the wrong way and tightening it down is what cracked it, maybe it's been like that since new. The crack isn't all the way through, so I just re-installed it the right way.

These may not be as fancy some here but these basic shipmano shifters go on their funky round boss.

Both my bikes with downtubes, I realized, are sporting mismatched pairs! Funny.

Cyclo right and Simplex left on the Taylor.

And on my Vitus 979, Simplex retrofriction shifts 9 speeds on a Suntour Cyclone M2. Fairly slick setup, using just about the entire 180 deg of travel in the lever. No problem, I have long fingers. I tried a Campy Doppler lever on the right for a while, but the Suntour spring was too strong for it and it kept slipping no matter what I did.
A Campy Record my dad hollowed out with a file back in the '70s shifts the front, and announces my attacks with an audible squeak as I switch up to the big ring.
