I'm looking forward to seeing you boogie down in Cambria in September.

Now I'm not going to go to far into other people's intentions or life goals, but It has crossed my mind that if one was a troll purposely orchastrating such divisiveness, there would be a lot of self congratulations going on in that dark little happy place.

Entirely plausible and hopefully not the case, seems like the move caught fire fairly quickly but we really don't know what dark forces may be at play here, my BS meter always goes off when something like this happens and we can't see behind the curtain.

I think I would have my pants on if that was "Cities on flame" just in case life decided to imitate art.

Valid point. But that may be perfectly appropriate attire if you're "ridin' the underground! Swimmin' in sweat..."

2) Everybody, please lighten up. This is not the end of the world, whatever happens. And especially, please lighten up on the Mods. I have little, if any, special insight into the Mod world but I do know that (a) they are not paid, they do this as a service to the bicycling community, and (b) this was done with good, not malicious, intent.

The Mods tried to do something nice. Some of us don't think it works. So say "no, thank you" and maybe ask politely (key word here - "politely") to change back and move on. There are posts here that sound to my ear as though some folks think this was an evil plot aimed at them personally. I'd bet good money that is not the case. I am also quite certain that every one of us has, at some point in our lives, tried to do something nice that went sideways and had a negative unintended consequence. So politely say "no , thank you" like our mothers taught us, politely ask the change be undone or for what you would prefer to see, and stop acting as though the Visigoths are at the gates. Please.
My parents taught me to try to understand before I make a judgement. Put myself in the shoes of the other person. Ask for help in that if necessary, by reaching out.

Does that actually function well? Ive got a 1980s Colnago with 8-speed Shimano 600 on it and the shifters are gunked up. If this works I may have to start watching for some Campy brifters.

And to think I was thinking this new forum group was sort of like a middle child (no offense intended to any mods or middle kids)

I appreciate the moderators thinking of us and trying to make things better, but clearly the recent change is worse. And all this discussion doesn't help. Just put things back, please. It wasn't broken. And now it is.

If you consider all of the possible combinations of cassette pitch, shift ratio and amount of cable pull in drive trains it seems reasonable that a good match could happen. In this case the the cassette pitch is within 0.01mm, so it worked great when I ran it for a few years.

I'm neither for or against a new forum. I do think it should be more about the compatibility issues for these models. Something that wasn't a big problem with friction shift and older brakes. As time moves on, the need for workable replacements for scarce parts becomes an issue.

@cudak888, the name tag should work if you fully type it and avoid choosing the name from the pop-up box.

@SurferRosa - It's back to working that way again? Go figure.

I swear there was a time period where it started working as intended, then it broke again. Got tired of figuring out which worked and assumed both were broken, seeing as it never seems to result in the recipient getting notified. Guess most of us have it turned off then.

Early in my membership here, I thought there was a better way to categorize topics of discussion. How arrogant. The scope of knowledge and experience is unique to this forum along with the personalities. Fortunately the range of personalities tends to be a heck of a lot more civil than elsewhere.

I learned a lot here and I mean C&V. I too visit other forums but this is home.

I can understand the apparent lack of attention to the 8-11V topics but it isn't unlike so many other aging experiences. What is contemporary to me is now 40 years old or more. I consider the latest addition, 1988 De Rosa Pro with full 10V record, a new bike. It exists in my happy place because of this forum and specifically C&V. Thank you to all of those who have contributed to my OCDness!

If threads are going to be moved, there is a gold mine of threads in the mechanics, framebuilders, 50+, folding bikes, tandems, SS, etc. forums.

If this trend of "fixing what ain't broke" and "change for change sake" is going to happen, what about a forum based on eroica qualifications to be used for C&V criteria?

I'm optimistic that the mods are reconsidering, given the preponderance of negative feedback.
