Things happen.
I did get a session timed out message yesterday. Did a “is the site down?”
yep.
Went for a bike ride.
at least not an extortion attack.

Does the admin team have the ability to post a sticky message across all forums? If so, it would be handy to do so and let folks know that it is being worked on with a link to a single thread for questions and updates.

I'm wondering if the site has gotten pounded by indexing and archive services.

I've had issues both with accessing links I saved in the past here and with opening pages.
Over the past few days I've not been able to upload any pics, it times out and gives me some error code, and pages sometimes load with a bunch of HTML jibberish.
The ads to the right are text only, no pictures, the panels are all just color panels with scattered writting and HTML. The ads to the bottom of the pages load, but the ads up top and to the right are just color boxes.
I thought it was just my computer here at work but my home computer does the same thing, as does my laptop.
Some pages, including this one to make this post take several minutes to load. The first time I got a blank page with 'page not found', then with a refresh, got a blank text box with no cursor, then the third refresh all was well after a longer than normal loading period, nearly 2 minutes.
When I tried to load a pic, it timed out, gave me a error message, and the only way out of it was to hit 'cancel' in the image window.
I tried downsizing the photo but the only way it would load was to downsize it to less than 150kb which yielded a far too small pic to view.
Several others forums I visited had a bunch of similar complaints recently, I don't think this is just going on here.

I typically go directly to my album/gallery, and upload there (access by clicking on "Gallery", then "My Pictures").
I target about 1000x1000 photos, saved at JPG with 70% compression quality. That gives me around a 150kb to 250kb photo which is generally manageable.
Over the weekend I was getting hammered with timeout errors, especially late at night and early in the morning. My interpretation is that it was WWW indexing or archive systems that had been confused with the format changes.
Hopefully those timeout errors will settle down as the site returns to normal.

It was better yesterday but today, none of my links worked again, I could reach the site only by going to the homepage. I had saved direct links to several sub forums but again, non worked. I deleted them again and re-saved them and they work again.
Pages are taking forever to load, both here and at home. Pics take forever to load then time out with an error warning. If I downsize them to less than 150kb, they'll go but it still takes a long time to upload, and even then it stalls and I have to hit cancel and start over.
Its not just this site, I post on a few others that use the same format, and a few of those are acting funny too, it started last weekend.
I thought the new windows update had something to do with it but one of the other forums said protocols have changed since some huge hacking event last week.
I do know a good many sites were down for a bit one day last week.
I even went out and bought a new computer at home thinking it was my machine, but its no better on the new Dell either. It was time for a fresh machine anyway, and I got a deal so no loss.

If you bought a new computer during that time and saved a bunch of new links, then those would have to be replaced. Also, if you use addressbar links, and started using a new computer over last weekend, it could confuse the computer for a bit. You can select and delete individual links from the address bar. At least I thought one could delete unwanted searchbar results, that doesn't seem to be working. Delete browser history?
I hadn't noticed the problem with other forums, but many many have had the same software update that BikeForums had.
BikeForums is owned by the parent company "Internet Brands", which have both independence, but also likely some common features, and quite possibly had a common problem over the weekend.
I had noticed a primarily nighttime slowdown (Pacific Time, USA) of the forum over the weekend which I blamed on instability of search engines and site archive companies. I don't know if that is continuing.
