Often used bicycle model names
 

I was thinking of Schwinn model names over the years and remembered that "Traveler" had appeared over many years on various types of Schwinn bikes. One of the first to come to mind was a "World Traveler" - a 3-speed electro forged step through that was high in quality and weight. Then there was a 10-speed high-tensile "Traveler" probably made in Asia near the end of the bike boom. Next was a Tru-Temper framed "Traveler" with a sort of fade green to white paint scheme and decent components. Now I have a 1985 mixte "Traveler" with 4130 DB main tubes, Cro-Mo stays, and high-tensile Tange forks.

Did many other companies reuse or recycle model names as often?

I believe Specialized has used "Allez" and "Sirrus" for several models over several decades. Here are the current Allez & Sirrus lineups:

They are a pretty far cry from the originals.

"Tour de France"?

I have an Olmo gran sport, Raleigh grand sport, and a Peugeot UO 9 Grand Sport.

I have two littermate Capo Siegers. I have not heard of anyone else using "Sieger" ("Winner" in English).

From 1972-1976, CCM's top model was the Tour du Canada, which featured a full Reynolds 531DB tubeset, full Campagnolo (Nuovo) Record group except for brakes and a tubular wheelset. When Procycle acquired the brand in 1983, the model name was re-introduced on an entry level bicycle with a hi-tensile frame, claw mount rear derailleur, brake safety levers and 27" steel rims. It was the greatest downgrade I've seen for a model within a brand and I can't count the number of times that I've had to inform excited buyers that the bicycle for which they just overpaid is not the desirable version. The demotion was worse than the numerous road models that resurfaced as hybrids in the early 1990s.

I am voting for Professional and Sport as my guesses for most frequently used...

with DeLuxe as the dark horse candidate!
