Looking forward to meeting and riding with you all. If feeling strong I'll ride the Scalatore ride.
Here's a picture @verktyg took last summer. A few changes since then, now with toe clip pedals, white bar tape, but you get the idea.

You are looking strong Eric. Lots of folk riding the Scalatore. I think y'all should upgrade to the shortened Heroic Route. 1 more hour ==> 1 more beer?

I’m pretty sure this isn’t exactly on topic but…….the wife and I found this in San Luis Obispo and intend to buy it before the ride on Sunday ! Since that means we will have two cars, I guess it falls on me to drive it home while she follows😄😄😄
It is pre-87 so it’s sort of Eroica approved 😄 our Ramato’s will look good on the back of that !

I've become so addicted to electronics... The handlebar computer that shows my route and uploads results, the taillight that includes radar, the headlight. I'll make sure the beeping sounds are off. Are any of you going completely hi-tech free? More electronics than me? And then there's the smartphone brick in my jersey.

Santa Rita is a very doable climb even if not in the best of shape. It's longer than Cypress at 6 miles, but the gradient averages 4% and only maxes out at around 8%. The road is also in really beautiful shape right now. The thing about Cypress is that it is steeper, but shorter. It's a climb of 2 miles less than Santa Rita, but it hits over 12% near the end. That said, it's super walk-able because it's short and most people who walk end up bailing within the last 1/2 mile or so. About half way up, maybe a little more, there's a nice little respite spot that levels out for a short distance. It's a good spot to take a break and contemplate the finish. In my opinion, the worse thing about Cypress is not the climb, but the descent.

Looks like typical modern clipless shoes, but wide enough for my wide feet.

Added heel, toe and midsole patterned rubber sections

Well, I got called to work by one of my long time customers so going in to work right now to get them some tools for tomorrow. I still plan to leave today , just not as early as I originally intended. I should be there around noon today . Everything is packed and ready . After work , just shower and load bikes and hit the road! I’m hoping the traffic Gods are in my favor…..

Heroic route (Note distance discrepancies in text, I haven’t compared the 156Km (97 miles) Italian route map with the previous Ride with GPS 108 mile map to undergo the route differences, if any, or if the distances are typos?) I guess the Heroic riders will get more info on their registration materials maps and cue sheets.

“Training” is Complete.
My last training ride was a one way commute. This is my Nova Bike. My wife is on the way to pick me up with the Ironman on the roof and two dogs in the back of the Subaru.
(Just one more complaint: why don’t they just mail the registration?)

I just got word that the buyer of the '73 Colnago Super I sold in February 2021 is going to be at the event. He's riding one of the routes on a Dura-Ace equipped Somec (light blue - my old frame/fork) and showing the Colnago in the Concours.
The bike in question:

As a result, a part of me will be there in spirit
Have fun and be safe, everyone!
EDIT: Updated me that he is still riding the Somec but decided not to show the Colnago until next year. Oh, well. I'll still be there in spirit 'cause he's riding one of my old frames

Too bad. Sorry we'll miss you. I know how it goes. Life's gotten in the way for me the past few years, too. This is only the 2nd time I've been able to participate, though I've wanted to each year since its inception. Hopefully, I'll be able to join you for one of the upcoming "first Saturday SF Penninsula" rides this summer once my schedule opens up.

I finally got here too, my knee was not happy about the 900 mile drive so not sure about my riding, we'll see. The green Merz that I brought is not the luxury liner that the big silver one is. It rides like a dream but is a hair small so not ideal for going on any kind of an epic ride.
But it sure cleaned up nice after I put in the work.

Visited the Sensorio art installation Friday evening with my family and nursing staff, ran into a fellow Eroica rider from San Diego. He’s actually just visiting the area with his wife and both are riding the Central Coast to the tune of 40-60 miles a day from their AirBnB in Atascadero. They will come by the Festival today to check out the bikes. Sensorio was a lot of fun, somewhat pricey, but very chill after all the activities of the day, plus it is a 40 minute trip to near the Paso Robles airport from Cambria.

Always a good souvenir to get a bike in the room photo. Enjoyed the Sunset ride to Linn’s last night. A nice evening to ride, good food, great company of other Eroici.
I still haven’t decided which ride for tomorrow. Game time decision. Long Ride or the 81 miles.
See you all on the road.

Scalatore route has been cancelled.
No cue sheets provided this year.
Is this event dying?

Whatever route you chose tomorrow, carry your personal nutrition. Slim Pickens today on Nova. Supply your own caffein too— no coffee to be had. Maybe Nova has always been like that and Sunday riders will get the full Eroica treatment I hope to finish with full pockets tomorrow. We’ll see.

Sadly, with all of it's potential EC has been dying since they lost Wesley as the Event Director. Eroica survives "in spite" of the current managements lack of commitment. I miss the "old guard" who inspired the concept and made a good show of it!

I’ve been here since Wednesday, in spite of the challenges of the event having to re-launch after being cancelled in previous Covid years, it’s been fantastic, the scenery is amazing, the people are great, I’ve had a blast and my wife is also enjoying it, classic ride in the morning… can’t wait…
