1961 Schwinn Tornado Twin Bar
Currently restoring a 1961 Schwinn Tornado Twin Bar. The 26-inch wheels may not be original. The front wheel rim is Rigida with the hub stamped as "Schwinn Approved." The rear wheel appears wider and heavier than the front and did in fact have a larger knobby tire. Coaster brake is stamped "KOMO1 Super" with the oiler hole in the hub. Neither wheel is stamped as "S7" which I might expect. I'd like to obtain matching rims and a triple-band yellow or red kick-back Bendix hub. Any comments? Help locating desired parts and components? I'm open for obtaining handle bars, fork, seat, etc. as well as matching rims and/or wheels.

Beach Cruisers area or even The Cabe might be better for you. Post some pics. Tires and wheels are going to be a big expense if not original. I have seen the prices just climb and would be inclined to just klunker it vs a restore.

If you want to restore it to original or like original condition, then you would be looking for Schwinn rims. If it were mine, I'd get some alloy 26" rims that any mountain bike or cruiser tire can fit on. I'd but a brick pattern tire on it, that is my style. Yours may be different.
The coaster brake you describe sounds like a Komet.
If you can build wheels or are willing to pay a shop or wheel builder to build a wheel this is an easier project to combine the parts that you may want.
I have always been curious bout the Bendix Kickback hubs. I never got to try one. I've heard both good and bad about them. So I guess it depends.
This company is making them brand new: Eagle Bendix reproduction I think the price is not bad considering.

Thank you for the comments and information. I'm not concerned about restoring this bike to original, rather original looking is fine. I won't be looking for Schwinn rims. I'll check sources for 26-inch / 36-hole rims and I've a few locals who will build wheels. I have a decal set and the frame, fork, and chain guard are just about ready stripping and painting. Thanks again!
