!952 Rudge Aero Special - finally a home!

Frame figuring is mostly intact.

Headbadge is a winner!

Right after I bought it. Front mudguard missing, I added the old Selle Anatomica, and some Specialized 27x1 tires.

Photographed a few days after I got it, all I added was the S-A saddle. Needed full over haul, now working on brake cables.

Real live Reynolds!

This old Rudge walked up to me at a LBS and said "please buy me!" and I couldn[t resist! It's 1952 Rudge Aero Special, Raleigh/Rudge Model 127. It has a Sturmey Archer AW, Dunlop Special Lightweight 27x 1 rims, GB brakes and bars, and full Reynolds straight gauge tubeset. I took a few brief rides on it when I got it, and loved the laid back geometry, finally placing a B17 where my butt wants it! Plans include leaving the original "livery" alone, replacing the steel crank with a TA or Stronglight spindle, aluminum seatpost and stem, and GB Randonneur bars. The brakes are GB Hiduminium, but only one lever is original. It came with a Sturmey shifter control. Most GB lever pairs are later and have a QR feature. Other planned changes include Modele 58 alloy rims with new 15/17 stainless spokes, Pasela tires, wing-nut QR, alloy-shell FM or FW Sturmey gearhub, and a nice B17 or B15 Swallow. The Swallow seems to have been one of the original equipments on these bikes. I need to go with Velox cloth tape, but I think I'll half-tape the bars like in the old days. I also have a pretty old but still decent Carradice Nelson Lowsaddle to install on the saddle. I'll probably need a bag support under it.

Fenders are not decided on. SKS still has some labelled the same as the originals but I don't know if I'll leave room for them - I'm thinking of Swift 27 x 1 ⅜ wired tires, for extra cushness.
