Candidate for Official Wine of C and V
 

Spotted this in the store today. It’s one of Chateau Ste. Michelle’s collaborations with European winemakers, in this case Dr. Loosen of Germany. Other colab wines I’ve had from CSM have been pretty good so I expect this would measure up.

Don't consume, but there is a Masi wine.

I'm happy with a nice Malbec from Chile.

Without a doubt it has to be Chianti. These bottles are given out in Gaiole along with your numbers and other goodies. Heck, chianti is served at all the rest stops.

Given what I see in the valuation forum, I thought it was Ripple.

Ripple - Cheap "Bum Wines"
 

Bum Wines or Wino Wines... 13% to 20% ABV fortified, sweetened, sometimes flavored "wines".

Ripple while only 11% ABV was a fruit flavored carbonated beverage reputed to be made of grapes. Because of it's popularity among the youth and winos in the US, at one time it became E & J Gallo Winery's largest selling product.

Ripple and Ginger Ale = Cham-Pipile!

Then there was the all time favorite Thunderbird - 20% ABV for less than a US dollar a bottle. Add some red color and it became Nite Train (proximity to rail yards). "Gets you through the night on time"


The all time Official Cycling Wine should be Mogen David 20/20 nostalgically referred to as MAD DOG 20/20...


The advantage of those inexpensive wines is they taste good - BOTH WAYS! :roflmao:

verktyg :50: Currently imbibing some 2019 Zynthesis Zinfandel... One of BevMo's house wines, ~$10 USD a bottle. When they have sales, the second bottle is $0.05!

My moto is usually "Life is too short to drink cheap wine" but... for everyday swill, I enjoy a bargain.

Given it's signifcant presence in Breaking Away, Cinzano would appear to be the obvious choice. Also, I always see cyclists on C&V bicycles trying to chase after Cinzano trucks, so they must really like it. :rolleyes:

However, I've always wondered why the company would permit themselves to be associated with such a group of scroundels? Did the exposure simply outweigh the negative image or did they not read the script before they allowed their name to be used? Was it something they later regretted ot did it help to boost sales? I guess the latter is certainly possible. Being heavily associated with Lance Armstrong didn't appear to hurt Trek sales after things came out.

As for my personal choice, make it H2O.

Hey... Its made from wine. At the age of 22 years I did a two day ride from Vicenza to the monument... Never again...

Let's not arbitrarily shrink the C&V tent.

Some of my best riding friends drink wine.

I've had people ask me the difference between bikeforums C&V and the Classic Rendevous google group. My answer is that the CR group is like a wine bar, BF C&V is like a dive bar. I tend to post here more often...

Alcohol Comsumption And Riding
 

In the realm of marketing, advertising and to a degree politics, there is no such thing as bad publicity. :troll:

Alcohol dehydrates the body. I used to avoid anything more than a beer or glass of wine even the day before a hard ride. Could never consume anything alcoholic during a ride or shortly afterwards, at least until my body re-hydrated.

But... most of us have seen the old photos of riders BITD smoking and imbibing.

Depends on the % of alcohol. A beer with 5-6% alcohol will hydrate you just fine. Just yesterday I did a 100k ride with friends, halfway we stopped for lunch and had a beer with no ill effects. On credit card tours, 50-70 mile days I'll often have a beer with lunch.

I ride with my publicist and beer sommelier often, and more times than not there's a stop for lunch, including a beer.

Moderation, of course, in all things. Including moderation. YMMV.

Happy to admit I’m a Napa wine snob and regularly donate to several makers. If it’s big red and bold, I’m in.

I appreciate quality in most alcoholic categories but wine is special. My close friends include a couple of great chefs and oenophiles with magnificent cellars and we cook dinners together quarterly. My daughter also works at an excellent local winery.

I'm all in. Wine is food where I come from.

Faves are usually Aglianicos from central and southern Italy or Tempranillos from Spain. Pure wine, no enhancements.

I’m sticking with Jim Beam, Grey Goose and Bacardi Gold these days. Twice this year I seem to have a Afib episode after some red wine so I’m staying away from it.

Just bought a bottle of, no idea of taste, but at least there's a bike on the label...

I pursue a mostly low-carb lifestyle, so it is pretty much only when I'm bike touring that I will drink beer. And I really really look forward to that beer at the end of the day. Otherwise, it's red wine for me with dinner. Sorry @top506!

I am not a connoisseur of fine wines, but when I drink there is nothing like a Chianti with some carbs. :D
