Here is a Motobecane bicycle, tell me your opinion about it.

Front end looks too steep, like the bike might have been run into something. Check for a bulge under the top tube and behind that lug. Stronglight 49D crank. Probably a decent frame. Is it your size?

UK Version Motobecane Super Champion
Bike is a 1974-75 UK Super Champion model equivalent to the US Grand Jubile bikes.
The 3 main tubes are butted Reynolds 531 tubing, the forks and stays are light gauge Motobecane carbon steel. The components are decent mid range quality. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...bc3b4f4733.jpg Cleaned up it will make a nice riding bike - if it fits! verktyg :50: |
Her fok bent

Fork looks okay (not bent) to me. Appears to still have tubular rims. Per info posted above by Verktyg, dropouts are Huret so expect Huret specific derailleur hanger. I expect it has not been ridden in years. All bearing will need servicing. The frame looks dirty but the finish looks in very good condition judging by only this single pic.

While I agree that a thorough check for frame damage is necessary and and that this picture shows an ... interesting ... head tube angle, this was also evidently taken close to the bike with a wide-angle lens that doesn't look particularly well-corrected rectilinearly and is pointed downwards. That's a pretty complete recipe for mangling geometry in the pic. I'd be careful of drawing too much information from this photo.

Something's outa whack. Whether it's the bike or the photo, I can't say. But I can say with confidence that the head angle on the OP's photo does not match the photos that Verktyg posted. Maybe someone with graphic skills can overlay them to prove my point.
Otoh, it would be difficult for me to say what, if anything, is actually bent on the subject bike. The fork itself looks pretty straight. I don't see any bends or bulges in the top tube or down tube. Maybe that points to photo distortion, or just some pre-Halloween sorcery. |
