Relative newbie here, but even I've seen some of his posts in searches and he seemed to have an eclectic and original skill set. His contributions will be greatly missed.

Sad news but his advice and projects live on here. Hope there is a machine shop where ever he is now.

Very sorry to hear this.
Some years ago he sold me a Le Champion that he had beautifully restored.
He was a pleasure to deal with and a perfect gentleman.

I hadn't heard from Scott in quite some time. In 2019, we had gone on vacation up to the Cape. and unfortunately, Scott's schedule didn't permit a meet.

He was a tremendous talent and he will certainly be missed. Great guy to deal with.

When I joined this forum it was for two reasons: first was that whenever I put a question to google, nine out of ten times I ended up here. The other was that my visits were always longer than planned because of the high quality of the posts by the regular members. Rootboy was one of those.

I had noticed his absence, and was hoping for another reason than this one. RIP, Rootboy.

He is missed, Hope his family is coping, a loss of a person we know to be a great person is never easy for those closest.

this also reminds me of what a family we have in C&V.

I often wonder when people stop posting, mostly it is because of other things, this post was appreciated

This is hard news to hear. I thought he had just drifted away like so many. Scott and I corresponded often and then COVID and life and we just lost touch. I remember his kindness, his skill at many things and his orange Team Champion. He will be sorely missed not just for his contributions here but I am sure by the many others he must have touched in his life.

This news came as a shock to me. I am truly so sorry we have lost such a lovely man from our community. Scott and I exchanged a lot of messages, and every single one of them was filled with camaraderie and ideas. I, too, have fallen away or just gotten a bit busy, but learning about the loss of Scott really makes for a sad day. I join the many here who treasured all of his widely varied inputs.

This is sad news.

I sent him a few notes last spring about fly fishing without a response.

Scott was an immensely talented fly tier and routinely sent me "care" packages. He wanted me to test his designs on the various warm water species here in Minnesota and the greater Midwest. He was also adept at dry flies that were deadly on our annual Montana visits.

He usually refused any money for his work, so I had to send some against his wishes.

I'll take some pics of his handiwork when I get a moment. I actually have three of his creations framed in my fly rod building shop in the basement. Scott knew that I was spending a great deal of time on building various types of fly rods including bamboo and he had exceptional craft skills.

One of my bamboo fly rods was given the name a "Scott" special, as he had a great deal of input. It was designed to catch stripers/steelhead and we dreamed a little about a visit to his area when I retire next year.

In addition, he created custom bar end plugs for many of my bikes. He was incredibly accurate with his designs and they had a very high percentage of artistic value. Many people noticed them when I would be out and about on a ride or at the local shop.

Truly an exceptional person. I'll miss him.

Scott was the really first BF'r to communicate with me on a personal level. I really appreciated him and who he was. His talents were many, as noted already. Although he produced a fair number of tire savers that he sold to many BF'rs and through another business, he was always looking for something that was needed but no longer available. I still have a supply of tire savers from the '70's so didn't buy them but I did get a handle for one bike.

Very sad news. I was, for some reason, thinking just a day or two ago that I hadn't seen him around here for a while, but hoped for the best. He is truly missed. Ride on Rootboy, wherever you are up there.
