Omni Japanese Track Bike (1980's) - Info?

I recently purchased this bike:

It is an OMNI "Track" bike. The tubing is 973 Superlight Double Butted (a Japanese brand, I believe). Chrome Tange fork and headset, Sugino crank, Sunshine Professional hubs (flip flop on the rear), MKS pedals, Araya rims, SR stem and bars, Kashima saddle. Japanese through and through. Component quality seems to be decent mid-range. Appears to be from the 1980's.

Does anyone know a thing about these bikes? There is one other post here on Bike Forums (from 2004) describing essentially the same model -- but the original poster is long gone. I found a reference elsewhere on the internet to the Omni brand, but for a different type of bike. No information at all about the manufacturer or why they existed

Iíve never heard of this brand but looking at it, Iíd say it was probably made as an import, as opposed to being for the domestic Japanese market. Looking at the seat cluster and rear dropouts, it doesnít have the typical signatures of a custom handmade bike. It looks more like a standard mid-range production model. The big Japanese bike factories were making a lot of bikes for the American market in the 1980s, and they were sold under many different names. Some are well known like Centurion but thereís also a world of smaller brands, even some specific to certain bicycle stores. Perhaps that was the case with Omni?

Edit - thereís also a thread on ****** with an Omni road bike. https://www.******.com/r/bicycling/c...bikes_i_found/

Thank you for all the information. I agree it does not seem like a racing-quality track bike. Perhaps it was meant as a starter track bike for those just getting into the sport? I suppose there is a market for that although it must be fairly small.
