New/newish model Cinelli supercorsa frame, repaint or what?
Hello all!
There is a Cinelli Supercorsa on somewhat "local" "CL". I'm maybe semi-interested in the frame only, but it would require some operations to get it to me. Did not ask the seller any questions yet as I still think if I want it and something is looking not quite right
Looking at these pictures it looks like a legit Cinelli (like fork pantograph and seat lug). No chrome anywhere, but it seems like it was an available option, maybe? Now, the Cinelli decal and C on head tube is different than anything I have seen from Cinelli. Is this some kind of limited edition decal? Particular year? A repaint?
The lug between down tube and head tube needs inspection, could be just dirt...
No need to appraise for price, just opinions about this frame

My take, FWIW. Remember, my opinion is worth exactly what you are paying for it.
(1) Yes, it's a Cinelli, from sometime after Cino sold his operation to the Columbos, meaning sometime after 1978 or so. Exactly when after that, I have no clue, although those short seat stays say it was after they started messing around with Cino's specs. Check out Sheldon Brown's take on Cinellis for more info on this.
(2) The finish was redone. It is either powder coat or really thick wet paint, as the details on the seat stay caps and the bottom bracket are significantly gobbed up. The Flying C logo on the fork contrast is also not very clean. This all suggests me the repaint/PC was not done by someone with a lot of bike frame experience. That doesn't mean the finish won't hold up, just that it does not have the attention to bike-specific details that one would expect from someone who does a lot of bike frames. It's worth examining closely.
(3) I would bet a good amount of money that the downtube graphics were made and applied along with the respray/powder coating. Not even remotely like any other Cinelli graphics I've ever seen, not even going back to the 1940s.
A question for you to follow up on: what is the seat post diameter? 26.2 mm means its from relatively soon after the sale to the Columbos. 27.2 mm means its from when the Columbos were no longer sticking with Cino's specs. My guess is it's a 27.2
This in not a collector's item by any means. Assuming it fits you and is structurally sound, it should make a nice rider, but to me. at least, it's nothing special. YMMV, of course.

I concur - it's genuine, but has been refinished. Spoiler BB shell indicates mid/late 90s production so it'll take a 27.2mm seatpost.
If you can get it relatively inexpensively, go for it - but use the fact it's been redone as a bargaining point.
