1984 Paramount Touring
It might be me getting older, but lately, I seem to be lowering my seat posts a couple mm every year. I've had my Miyata since 1984 and it used to have all the flutes exposed, but now they are inserted about a cm. So no, your bike looks perfectly normal to me.

Today, while it's still cold I'm going to regrease the bottom bracket and wheel hubs. There's a selle anatomical leather saddle nearby on craigslist that I might try and get today, and some new bar tape. I'm totally indecisive on color so I'll probably end up with just black. Hopefully I can get the regreasing done relatively quickly so I can take it out for a ride.

Regarding the fork, there are many possibilities. Maybe there was a Campy fanatic in the past. Maybe the easiest/quickest way to get a Campy headset on there was to swap forks. Or maybe a previous owner wanted his bike to look Italian so he puts the chrome fork on and the Campy stuff. Who knows? I think the bigger question is why the Shimano AX crank is on there with the Campy stuff.
I have a Centurion Turbo with a chrome Prestige fork. The fork crown triangles have matching paint. My guess is that the original Tange Aero headset failed and the LBS didn't have a replacement so they swapped the fork/headset. Who knows? When I acquired this bike, it had Campy hubs, Simplex Retrofriction DT shifters, Superbe RD, Cyclone FD and Cinelli stem/bars. Purpose built racer.

EXcellent decision! Now eager to see this properly kitted out: whether all Campy SR or DA or even some hybrid gruppo not so important, but at LEAST without those horrid foam grips!

That looks just about right, honestly - you have about a fist's worth of post showing, and a tiny bit of drop at the stem. Glad it's likely to fit in the long run as it would be a shame to have to pass that one along. Being fortunate enough to find a near-pristine '81 Bianchi Super Leggera a few years ago (my grail), I can relate to the thrill of finding something so old in such fine shape!
Really hope you can make this work for you.

oh my god, those grips are even worse than they look. They are slippery, and the foam doesn’t blunt the shocks or weird aero bar profile at all. Raw aluminum probably would’ve been better. My ride was a short 5 mile loop around my neighborhood and local bike paths, but a detour to the bike shop to get bar tape was imperative after the first block of riding.
