Wow - I had that exact bike in the same color. My parents got it for me in 1982 to go on some summer bike tour trips. Loaded it up with a Blackburn rack and some big Cannondale panniers (anyone else remember when Cannondale started as a bag company - before they made bikes?). I sold it to a friend of mine years later. It was a nice bike. Very cool. I had forgotten about those "Fuji" cranks.

Hello there ! Nice job, beautiful bike. I am actually considering this same frame (but in my size !) and was wondering what tyre width you have here. Do you think it would fit up to 35s ? Thanks if you can help !

Good job, super clean. Love the colors. My first was also a Royale for a friend. Not the best pics but album here: https://flickr.com/photos/jordanparrish/albums/72157715089156166/with/50110345541/.

Yea, those Fuji branded cranks look so great. Surprisingly they didn't use them on some of the top shelf stuff.

I think it's possible but I would be cautious the way these older steel frames flex. I run 28s on mine and they measure around that and I have about 8 mm of clearance at the narrowest front side. The rear has more room and I imagine that's where you would really have to worry about flex. I'm also just a bit of a purist but I wouldn't want tires that were too wide because that wasn't the aesthetic of the time. But if you just want a bike to ride I think 35s would work. You'd be in the clear for sure on 32s

The Royale I linked above wears 32s just fine. 35 would probably fit but be close.

Hello Da Kube, great bike. I am doing a similar bike restoration. It has the original saddle in great condition. It does feel pretty harsh/firm though. I am curious what do you think? The bike is not rideable yet so I can't test. If a replacement, what do you suggest without breaking the bank.
Thank you!

Would be interesting to know what thought process your parents went into that purchase with, it’s an interesting bike choice. Definitely not the worst for the job, but pretty far from the best as well, though it probably performed just fine.

Thanks! I really wanted to keep the stock seat but it's very round and oddly shaped for me. But it looks cool. I swapped it out for the Brooks England Cambium All Weather Bike Seat but I got it used. They're about $90. Not cheap. On a budget, i'd go with something like the Origin8 Classic Lite Saddle. It looks the part and is $30.

Very nice! These bikes show some character, unlike today's bikes.

Don't over-think it. I was 13 years old. We went to the local bike and we went to the local bike store and told them I needed a bike for a bike trip and gave them our budget. They suggested the Fuji. I test rode it around the block, and that was that. I think most of the stores around me either had Fuji, Peugeot, Raleigh and Panasonic. My best friend had a bigger budget (from his parents) and went to a cooler bike shop farther away. He got one of the original Treks. I think they were all still hand made in Wisconsin back then, but I'm not sure.
