Unusual Carlton - any idea what model?
Picked this old frame up the other day. Appears to be from 1970's... though could be 60's? Capella lugs, 2590g frame weight makes me think Tru-wel tubing (a good 470g heavier than my 531 tubed Carlton flyer). 70's era decals. Has later modifications added by looks of it - rear dropouts I think are Vitus & its spaced to 126mm.

I have a Carlton Kermesse in Tru-Wel 205 in 59 cm size and it weighs 2,606 gm. The fork is 804 gm so I would say your guess on tubing is correct. Typically, the Vitus dropouts were not factory OEM until around 1980ish but the block Carlton lettering was late 70s. Possibly a re-spray with later decals?

I'm thinking that it is mid 60's Catalina that has had the rear drops changed. Based on the fancier holed lugs which where gone for simpler stuff by the late 60's and the blocky Vitus drops didn't come out till the late 70's. Can you tell if there is any chrome under the paint on the forks or rear since most of the 60'd Carlton stuff had some chrome I suspect that someone may have sanded and painted over the chrome when the dropouts were changed to get stuff to match.

i think it might be a mid 60's Catalina but I'm not 100% sure. It could be a mid-late 70's that used up old Capella lugs.

There is no chrome under the paint. Rear spacing is 126mm. I believe Capella lugs were used by Carlton in the years 1959-1967, but I have seen them on on some special late 70's Raleigh's: https://www.google.com/amp/s/raleigh...w-arrival/amp/

my parents Catalina's (US export) only had chrome on the forks.
Not sure when Carlton for the UK domestic market dropped using a Carlton headbadge.
look like artifact holes for one.

You might want to try the catalogues here for detailed model illustrations: CATALOGUES CARLTON
The badge drillings look right for a Carlton rather than a Raleigh and the light boss on the fork indicates a British market sport model.

The lugs, stay caps and fork look like a 1964 Catalina in this illustration: CATALOGUES CARLTON: CARLTON 1964

I’ll guess there’s not a serial number on the bottom bracket?…..Carlton usually put them on the left side dropout, with the original dropouts missing it’s not likely we’ll find an exact date. I do think, as others have said, it’s probably a 60s Catalina, or since there is no chrome present, possibly a Capella Clubman. bertinjims catalog photo looks really close to my eyes but there is also this.

Capella lugs along with pump pegs place it mid-60s or earlier.
