1979 Chrome Panasonic DX2000

Just finished bringing this bike back to almost 1979 stock minus the 600 brakes. What do you all think.

It is a little detail that some don't care about, but I like the branded saddle. I bought my wife a Bridgestone with a hideous Schwinn saddle on it. As I was loading it into my vehicle the old man pulled the original Bridgestone saddle out of the back of his truck and said he didn't know what it belonged to, but I could have it.

Chrome dork disk means "steel" and that means "heavy."

If you REALLY want a dork disk- get an alloy Suntour- I don't know if Shimano used aluminum dork disks, the black one kind of looks anachronistic.

But if you have the rear derailleur adjusted correctly- you shouldn't need a spoke protector.

FWIW- I like the look of the the Suntour ones- but it really really doesn't need to be on there.

The bike looks fantastic! And that's a good choice in brakes. I think those are among Shimano's last shiny, single pivot brakes.

thanks for the words.. it really was a unicorn bike for me.. finding the chrome dx2000 on search all craiglist finally after like 2 years of searching.. and yeah those are the last single pivot 600 brakes.. i think they are from 84 so not totally period but higher functioning than the period correct dia compe or shimano arabesque. as for dork disc, the black one came with the NOS wheels I replaced the crappy set the bike came with. I have been searching ebay and found a few suntour alloy ones.. I think the original factory specs had an chrome disc so I may go for it just to be a stickler.

Glad to see you converted this from being a 'downhill racer' by correcting the tilt on the seat

Go over the seatstay rather than under it. Like the first photo.

That black plastic Cannondale dork disc is a %#$!+=$% atrocity - and I absolutely love it!

I have one just like it hanging on my wall. I just don't have the balls to actually put it on a bike.

Brakes with the cable routing on the right are what's needed.
Here is a chrome dx2000 example I pulled off the internet.

The bars seem huge, but that may just be the angle of the camera. If they fit you, then cool.

And yeah, flipping the seatpost will make it look better and get the saddle in the correct spot.

Route it under the top tube to the nds of the seat stays.
