Poor Wi-Fi here in the Kila Motel 6. Pics later. Summary: Rode hilly dirt roads from Kila to Hot Springs and back the next day. Gorgeous scenery. Symes Hotel is still skanky. Awesome support. Three cheers for @mountaindave!

Yeah, we're a little spoiled in WA and OR in that we don't get real hail. Saw a pic from further east in MT and the hail stone was baseball suze.

Driving to his house it really started to come down hard. At some point we decided it was best to get cover for his car, it sounded like we were getting shelled the hail was so big it was denting the rooftop of the car! Just as we were pulling into a gas station, we heard an explosion. His rear window blew out!

Soon it was all over and we arrived at his house, pulled out a shop vac and cleaned up the mess. Big skies, big hail!

Mark was a huge help with the window and then course Marking the next day so people wouldn’t get lost (more on that later). But here’s the car (with Car Tape!)

The third rider is Mattias, a friend of a parent as school, Jeremy. He is from Chicago and rode a SS!
Nine Mile Hill was apparently tough on him as, when he reached the fork that is 1/4 mile below the top, he turned left and went back down the Day 1 route.

We had a breakdown in the Sag/Sweep jobs and @Choke got left as sweep with Mattias missing, and no way to communicate that (no cell service). He wins the René Vietto award (most unselfish) for day two by a long shot.

Choke waited with Jeremy, they went back down Nine Mile Hill, got cell service, checked in, we were able to determine the most likely scenario, he went back up the hill, then down the Day 1 route, found Mattias, and everyone arrived back safe and sound. Sounds simple, but it sure wasn’t in real time…

Regardless, Choke lives up to the US Marine motto: Semper Fidelis. I can’t thank him enough. He was the hero of the day.

Enjoying the pics so far - thanks to those posting. The weather looked superb, and it doesn't sound like there were any casualties this year; good deal.

Somebody getting lost on Cino to the point somebody had to go looking? Imagine that

I see Dave Kirk was there again with his 753 Kirk. Any other luminaries? What was the ratio of road bike to MTB? Auction results? Inquiring minds wanna know!

Safe travels home to those still traveling. Hope to hear your stories as the week moves forward. And pics - we always like pics

Some very interesting bikes - including a BMX. Maybe half a dozen MTBs, I was able to to sneak my Stumpy past the entry judging committee by concealing the rapid-fire shifters with a bit of subterfuge.

I was so caught up with the anniversary build that I totally missed what was going on with the shifters - very clever!

Chokes Scapin at Fridays bike show

Davesters Cinelli

Thomas was very fortunate in meeting the original owner of his Zeus on Friday. It was a real treat to talk with him and hear his stories about the bike!

We got home a couple of hours ago. Time to unwind and sort out some damp camping gear.

Thanks to Dave and Co. for putting on this great gathering. The people this weekend were really the best. From all the riders, and to all that helped and were there In a support role. Nothing like pulling up to a rest stop to a damn near standing ovation(& then having to come up with a joke or song in order to get a piece of bacon).

Thomas made a bunch of new friends. He rode with several different groups throughout the weekend(mostly because he got tired of waiting for me). He had a great ride, no mechanicals or flats, conquering all obstacles without any complaints, and generally just making me a proud father.

My wife is the greatest. She put up with our bike stuff and preparations, as well as accompanying us on this week long trip, and without too much bickering. She vows to never stay at the Symes hotel again. Ever.

Our cozy cabin at Symes. Looks quaint right... Looks are deceiving...

Impressive bike handling skills on that beautiful De Rosa fixie - kicking off the pedals on a descent, riding it out, and catching the pedals after bottoming out. He made it look easy.

Never had children myself, but man, I could still relate to your feelings regarding Thomas' accomplishment
