Used Schwinn

$1 dollar for a used Schwinn World 10 speed. The bike looked in decent condition on FB marketplace. I had mine stolen and just want a beater for when I move back to college. I go to college in Topeka and they have high property crime. I think it was 70s. Pretty decent bikes if it gets work done or no?

A seventies Schwinn should be a good bike for school if I understand that right. Do you know what model it is? Did you really pay one dollar for a Schwinn that is rideable?

You have enough post to post a picture toto34 . Pictures work great here for getting responses.

Yes.

Just started posting like mad to get the amount for pics to be enabled! Will post once I get my phone charged. However, jumped the gun because it is in good condition. I just was wondering in general about them.

Depends on the year and actual model but it should be a nice Solid frameset.

Not sure the year. Sometime in the 70s

I'm thinking every single component is worth more that $1 each.

Very interesting front derailleur location.

Looks 80's, not 70's.

I will need a lot of work if you want it to be reliable, or a little work if you won't ride it much

That is a Schwinn World. Schwinn used that name throughout it history on various different bikes. This one was built by Giant in Taiwan in the'80's. I worked in a Schwinn dealership when these were sold and being the bike snob, I dismissed them as low end. I picked one up a few years ago and was surprised at how good a value it was. At only $1 it is an incredible value! It is low end which means steel rims, seat post, stem, handlebars and lower end components. The frame build quality is excellent for an inexpensive bike. The bike rides well. And those steel rims are pretty good as long as you don't have to deal with wet braking.

The paint on the World was better and more durable than the paint than the paint that Schwinn was applying in Greenville, MS at the time. This is just my opinion as a collector. Schwinn knows how to paint, but they were trying to build bikes on a budget and paint was one of the things that they skimped on. Although to be fair, many of their competitors had similar paint. Back to the World. You got a nice bike there. With a little fixing up, you should enjoy it. And lock it up. Don't let someone get a better bargain than you.

My first road bike, once we arrived in Mexico, was a 78 Schwinn World. I used it heavily around the city(Merida) and did Sunday centuries on it too. I still have the frameset hanging here.
