I don't know why, but I'm strangely attracted to these full fendered Peugeots Here's one on FB Marketplace, reasonably priced. Appears to be a UE8 with all it's original equipment. Markings on the frame look a bit different than what's shown in the catalogs I find from the cottered crankset era. I asked the seller year and model and he sent me a pic of the "Carbolite" sticker. Any clues to year.?

Per the frame graphics, most likely an 81 or 82.......
What does the head badge look like? If it's a black plastic lion in profile with a chrome edge, around it, then, it's most likely an 82.

The reflector mostly obscures the badge but from what I can see it is what you describe. Odd that they were still using cottered cranks post-'80. But then again, it's a low-end bike.

A little later and nicer than the 70s UE 8s. It's nicer because it has better derailleurs. If you run 700c alloy wheels, you'll get better performance and extra clearance for a little fatter tire. This will make a fine commuter.

I'm speculating it may be a French market bike due to the yellow bulb in the headight. Their model numbers were different than US market bikes.
