I bought the frame because it had decent chrome in all the right places. It started life as a shop brand (Abel Borne) and I would have finished it as such if I had some decent photos of the markings to get replicated. There was a gotcha, though. The drive side chain stay had a nice chunk out of it. Jack at Franklin Frame took it in and made it all good. My loving wife bought the Simplex gold for my birthday. The remainder came from various sources. A shout out to Leh Cycling Leather in Austin, TX. Great customer service.

Very cool! Chrome lugs, purple frame, gold grouppo- what an eye-grabber.
What are the rubbery bumps inboard on the handlebars- just another hand position? |
The color looks the same, very good.
How did the instructions differ this time? New chrome on the dropout? or was that preserved? |
Great looking color combination, Lynn. Awfully cool that your wife supplied the gold bits. She's a keeper

Beautiful. Is there a honey saddle in it's future?

I assume you are referring to my comments upon getting the frame back. Despite being the wrong color, I did not return it as I feel I bore some responsibility for that. And I do like the color, even though it was not the color specified. Chrome on the dropout was preserved. Nice job there considering he replaced the stay.
This one looks pretty close from my memory and digital color is infidelity. Careful work to replace the stay and save the chrome. This one looks very nice. All that bright anodizing. |
I am thinking about gold fenders. Too much?

What if the fenders were painted purple to match the frame with a medium width gold speed stripe down the center line..... |
Gorgeous bike. Not sure what color fenders would look right, but I think not gold.

My personal opinion is it's too much gold, now its a competing color instead of a highlight..

Beautiful result!
Since you're open to opinions: match the fender color to the creamy white of the head tube and seat band. DD |

Only one way to top this! If you could actually source a gold anodized Stronglight 93 crankset! I have seen only one in the flesh, it was on a mid Seventies Raleigh Competition. But this bike is gorgeous! Well done!

That was suggested to me off line. I had a gold 93 a few years back and tried to use it on another similar project. It was too much for that one. Maybe just the rings, but not the whole crankset would work. |
