Searching for Mafac Racer with vertical bolt

Hey everyone, new user/first time posting here so forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong forum.

I'm searching for a rear Mafac Racer with a vertical mount for my Peugeot eo-8. I know these are pretty hard to come by and I've had no luck searching online so far. I'm reaching out to the community on here to see if anyone might know where I can source one of these, or if anyone has a spare they might be willing to part with? Any advice or help would be useful. Thanks in advance!

Racers came in short, long, and adjustable reach. You may only need a long reach set of Racers. I didn't know until recently that the only difference between them is the backing plate, item 451E/452E in the picture below:

I'm reasonably sure that the difference between 451E and 452E is the vertical distance between the center bolt and the brake pivots (dimension h, below)

Here's the spec's for he various centerpulls shown above.

Notice our own @nlerner contributing his vast centerpull knowledge, above

So it appears you need more reach? If they're short reach Racers, and you need no more than 5mm reach, then all you need is a long reach backing plate. If you already have a long reach Racer, then an adjustable backing plate would probably do the trick. Another option is to use MAFAC RAIDs, the longest reach MAFAC centerpulls of all.

If I'm not mistaken, the rear brake bridge often requires a longer reach brake than the front. In that case a Weinmann Vainqueur 800 would work, and are much more easily found.

I think what the OP means is he needs a racer with the adapter/doo-dad for a brake stay with the vertical hole, not necessarily needing more reach.....?

If that's the case, they do come up on eBay sometimes, though for ridiculous $$ (though if it's what you need, it's what you need...). You may have luck on ebay.fr- I got a set of Mafac Raids there for a decent price that had such and adapter. I didn't need it but ended up repurposing as the brake-bridge mount for my fenders.

So your frame's rear brake bridge is drilled vertically, rather than horizontally? If so, this is the part you need:

It's separate from the MAFAC caliper itself, so not really a "Racer" vertical bolt. At any rate, I think I have a spare. Email me at lerner dot n at gmail dot com.

Its things like this that encourage one to have a friend with a lathe (or to have one yourself). Easy enough part to fabricate *if* you have the tools and the skills.

------

for other readers who may require such a fitting in the future the Weinmann one is generally easier to locate

CLB also offered fittings of this type

and lastly the MAFAC Racer -

Slightly more than $20- the $ and the are currently at about parity.
The last couple bike things I've bought from FR via eBay have cost around $20 to ship.

in case obtaining one of the fittings from a member does not work out another low cost approach would be to go through the brake caliper bin(s) at any local co-op(s)

this type of mount seems to be more commonly encountered on cycles from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland &The Netherlands than from some other nations...
